I do think this offer could be a sign Tyson Smith is getting a medical hardship, especially if this was his 2nd ACL tear. That'll open up 3 scholarship spots with 1 point guard (Custer) and a combo guard (Skokna) already on next year's team.

Would we actually get an extra scholarship if Tyson redshirts? Interesting. I assume it could only be used on a graduate player in that case?

For what it's worth Carr visited at a GCU home game during the CIT tournament. Pictures show the arena was packed and i'm sure it had a great atmosphere. His twitter line is also filled with GCU students expressing excitement during his visit/congratulating him upon commitment; that's something that LU doesn't consitently have the benefit of unfortunately. So in this case i'm sure the "culture" had an impact.

Not if he redshirts. The medical hardship waiver means his career would be over due to injury. I'm pretty sure Tanner Williams in recent years was given that waiver, although I could be mistaken. Again, this is pure speculation about the injury/scholarship #. What's for certain is he's out for basically more than half the season as a best case scenario with a recurring injury, so it's not out of the realm his career is over.

I would really prefer to have two scholarships open for the 2017 class for Krutwig and a point guard but our lack of depth could really be a problem next year so I am not sure what the best option is. Maybe a grad transfer?

I think I saw somewhere that Grand Canyon averages a little over 6,500 per game. Having a guy like Thunder Dan as the coach also doesn't hurt.
