It's strange at the Valley couldn't get a stronger crew for a 1 vs 2 matchup in the middle of the season.
That is funny. The guy sitting behind me on my right spent the whole game pontificating and mansplaining everything to his female companion, and one of the things he said was since this is an important game, they probably made a great effort to get the best officials. The guy behind me on my left (and a lot of other people mixed in the audience) kept demanding fouls and travel calls on Loyola players, but angrily yelled "Let 'em play!!!" every time a Bradley player was called for a foul, INCLUDING the foul on Custer on the breakaway that might have been called a flagrant at a neutral site. I had to get up and go sit elsewhere after that.
We played badly, in long stretches, yes, absolutely. Too many travels. Two missed front ends of one-and-ones. The game was very physical, and I was concerned several times (like on the Custer play, the elbow to Krutwig's face, the time Custer? was knocked to the floor on a rebound when a Bradley player landed on him and Custer? was called for the foul) that somebody was going to get hurt. But on any other floor in the league we would have won, I think.
Bart Torvik's site gives a 1 to 100 number ranking to a team's performance in each game, like a percentage of their best possible performance, and we got a 67 last night, which I think is about right. Add the style of officiating and the missed calls, and we come up short.
