I think what can be frustrating about Aher offensively is he can have a great game, like UIC, and then he goes and lays an egg the next, like this one. He's rarely going to be the top offensive player, but he doesn't need to be. You just need him to chip in 5-7 points with a couple of assists to feel good about it.

The potential problem with Welch playing for Aher is the defensive matchup. Aher normally covers a guard. While Welch is better this year, I don't know if he's quick enough to cover a guard, and we all know Krutwig isn't. Against a team like Wisconsin who starts 3 forwards and 2 guards, it might work, but I don't know if we can recover enough against a 4 guard lineup with both of them. If we need to score, it could be a nice spark, but I don't know if it's a solution to a bigger problem.

As for Anderson, he transferred with the intent to sit out a year, so he shouldn't be upset if he doesn't play. That said, I think if he's allowed to play with the new rule, it's dumb to treat it as a normal redshirt year. However, I don't think he should crack the rotation unless he turns out to be game changing. I think what you do is you can play him in garbage time and blowouts unless he's really needed. Get him game experience in the system, but don't disturb the chemistry of the rotations that have been building since the preseason too much because of a sudden rule change.

Now that Anderson is eligible and can play this season without costing him a year of eligibility, what possible rationale can there be to continue to treat him as a redshirt? That's absolutely pointless. I mean how could Porter even explain this to Anderson?

The question now becomes how will Porter utilize him and fit him into the rotation without disrupting team chemistry or unduly stealing minutes from other players which might slow their development or prompt them to transfer.

Agree with what everyone has said about Hall, Uguak, and Welch. Figuring out these bigger wings seems to be a big key for us moving forward.

JCT - condolences to you and yours for the loss. I’m giving some extra attention to my own cat (Stella) on behalf of Dora.

So we were tied at the 16 minute mark,,,,then UW got 4 3s....3 of them off the high pick and roll....the first Welch did not get out , 2 of them when Krut dropped into the lane to help stop the ball...and the 4th when Kennedy went under a regular screen as opposed to over the top....then the freshman Hebb got beat twice off the dribble and no one was there to help on the baseline.....and then we were down 16......
It seems that the post player dropping after the high pick and roll is the plan....and if the ball gets kicked back to the post for the 3 our post really has to hustle........we often let a wing drive to the hoop but we double team with help on the baseline....I think we must not have communicated that there was no help and the defender needed to push him back to the center(you will see this sometimes when our defender jumps for the players outside arm to his inside arm ). So we made some defensive lapses that UW took advantage of.
Offensively we were unable to close at the rim (other than Krutwig) we got to the hoop a lot and then just got stuck with no where to go....we really need the mid-range game to be successful. This is where Marquis Townes was the man!...it is pretty much Tates job now and he really struggled yesterday...Lucas is okay at it and at the end of last year Clemons really started to come on.( UW was solid at this with Davidson and Trice)...Kennedy should be a dagger in the mid game but I am surprised at his lack of playing time so far unless it is injury related...or defensive mistakes which buys you bench time with Porter.
Good news....we probably wont play a team with two good bigs who can shoot from outside (we can run that high pick and roll with Welch). Williamson competed with the BIG10 guards. We have a lot of guys who can shoot the 3 . Porter is a teacher and this game will give him a lot of teachable moments.

Hey Nate. Please help out your readers by using Paragraphs and Spacing.

Think of it as Social Distancing for text, or water stations at a marathon.

Does take the sting off a bit. Wisconsin is a really good team.
