As much as I thought Grace was a nice person and competent I never thought she was the one for the job if we define that as resurrecting the basketball program. I think there are three outstanding tasks left for a new AD.
1. The completion of getting the basketball program back to prominence. THis includes all the peripherals like marketing, and sports information etc.
2. practice facility for a track and field program that is moving back into national prominence
3. Student buy in.

I am going to take off my Hawaii 5-0 hat and mull this all over........I am assuming Father G has known of this for a while and always has had someone on the back burnerr. I think we need a Chicago guy with basketball roots.

Loyola is in prime position right now. We've got A+ facilities and a recent jump to the MVC, showing the brass is dedicated to success. We need - and can get - an all-star leader for the athletic department. There are really great people that work in the department and they deserve a top-notch boss.

My understanding is that Dr. Kelly will no longer be at Loyola. I did not know him well and do not celebrate anyone's dismissal, but trust that Fr. G is making the right moves.

Parker Executive was the firm that placed Dr. Calhoun at Loyola. They also placed her at Penn. I'd hope we learn not to use them further, as it seems to me a bit of bad form to poach someone you placed three years ago. Even if they found a rock star this time, would we worry they'd come and get him/her again in a few years?

Over time I have not been Dr. Calhoun's biggest fan, but wish her well. And to the extent of her involvement in moving LU to the Valley, I thank and appaud her. But as I said yesterday, today is a great day to be a Rambler!

That 8 is only step one of course. There really should be little if any delay--Admin MUST have known this was coming. Hence I expect a timely announcement of the NEW and higher ranked AD. We MUST get phrases like'stepping stones' out of Management thinking. Beating out the likes of Marq on this will tell a lot.

Move on to the top now !!

AND BTW I really expect a post season tourney bid next season--The half measures stop NOW.


I truly wish Grace C true success in the IVY League once again---BUT More so for that beautiful little girl of hers.
