Loyola plays University of St. Francis on Tuesday at noon in a final tune up game before the start of conference play on Tuesday. The Ramblers have played the NAIA school out of Joliet once before, earning a 63-46 win on Dec. 28, 2009.
The Fighting Saints are 5-2 on the season with one exhibition game against a D-I team; last Monday, Central Michigan beat USF 91-39.
USF is coached by former Texas-Pan American Coach Ryan Marks. The Saints start 5'10" point guard Eric Ting, 6'5" center Lewis Holey, 6'4" forward Carter Fayhee, 6'1" guard Russell Tillery, and 6'3" guard/forward Joey Buggemi. Coming off the bench are 6'8" freshman forward Aitor Anabitarte, 6'0" guard Carlos Tovias, 6'7" sophomore forward EJ Charles, 6'7" forward/center Deandre Johnson, 6'5" forward Reihana Maxwell-Topia, and 6'3" guard Nadav Gerner.
Leading scorer Ting, a native of Taiwan, is the team's leading scorer at 12.7 ppg. He shoots well from distance (12 of 18 from behind the arc) and gets to the line often, shooting 82% from the stripe. Ting is one of five active USF players from overseas; Holley is from Australia, Anabitarte is from Spain, Maxwell-Topia is from New Zealand, and Gerner is from Israel. Buggemi is averages 12.1 ppg, and Deandre Johnson leads the team in rebounds (7.6 rpg) coming off the bench.
Loyola is currently ranked 55th in KenPom.com, but games against non-D1 teams are not counted in the stats used for his rankings.
