Kentucky doesn't worry me as much as others. They may have the best individual talent of any team, but I don't think they're that good of a team as a whole. Shox appear excited at the chance to play them though.
The one that got me was L'ville as a 4 seed. Meeting them in the Sweet 16 seems a bit ridiculous but it is what it is. I think we can handle that should we meet up though. We had them on the ropes last year and we can finish them off this year.
Gonna be a fun tournament.
Bruce Pearl, Miles Simon, and (somebody I didn't know) did a 10-minute segment on the ESPN Bracketology show about how and why Kentucky will beat Wichita State in the second round. I guess the close call with Florida was fresh in their minds. I'm not even sure Kentucky can get past Kansas State in St. Louis....
It's pretty easy to do, but I always like it when Bruce Pearl is held up as an ignorant ass-- would love to see WSU do it yet again.
That and they have the Star Power that influences many. Kentucky and KSU are both good teams that would be capable of winning, I'm just amazed at how many national types are writing us off. I think the biggest issue we'd have with a UK matchup is Cauley-Stein and his height/length. But at the same time, he plays soft and that's been a knock on him since HS. I think we could frustrate him and get him in foul trouble and that takes away what could be a difference maker. We have a couple of big guys ourselves in 6'9" 260 types that we can throw at 'em.
I've seen people talking about atheticism but don't sell the Shox short. FVV doesn't wow you with insane quickness or explosive speed, but he knows how to play and get the job done. And back in his AAU days, he went up against the best in the class and won. There aren't many better athletes than Tekele Cotton either. He may only be 6'2" but his strenght and speed/quickness as well as his leaping ability help him shut down guys bigger than him. Ron Baker may be a white boy from western KS, but he's quite an athlete as well and our 2nd best defender. We know how he can shoot and create.
I'm excited for a chance to shove it in the faces of the national types who have already written us off this March.
I'd love to get a shot at UK, but a Sunflower matchup with KSU would be a lot of fun too. Sunday is going to be fun.
