I view this as another nail in Porter's coffin. He'll probably talk about the one that got away (the Dayton home and home) and how he HAD to schedule this game. It fits with his narrative about running off players and having a young team.

I'm starting to feel like either Sisyphus or Tantalus, though I can't tell which at this moment.

I was feeling like Tantalus but my Dr. assured me it was Sisyphus and that a little penicillin would clear me right up.

He must be thinking of Gonzogarhea. Penicillin will not cure Sisyphus.

Is Abilene Christian still in the transitional phase of DI or are the all in now? I believe if you schedule a transitional team they don't count against your RPI. It's a way to help them get a DI schedule and get situated. I think they may be past that though.

I think they are still transitional as they are in year 2. They aren't eligible for postseason play until 2017-2018. That said, they are considered an RPI institution as of this year.

So it's only in year one that they won't effect a teams RPI? I'm too lazy to look it up today and am going off memory.

On the bright side, you guys didn't actually schedule them. Sometimes bad teams are the price we pay for a good MTE. One year we were given a DII school and were not happy about it. I believe we played Arkansas-Monticello. The next time we were in that tournament (CBE in KC) they gave us the best home game available to make up for it. Don't remember who that was but their RPI actually started with a 1.

Yeah, I'm not that upset about these two games. It's the price of getting two decent games is Las Vegas.

It's the Jackson State, Rockhurst, and McKendree games that are tough to swallow.

How could I forget?! Actually, I was just talking about the games I have to watch in person.

Maybe this was the scheme all along:

1. Allow Beer Sales
2. Schedule Terrible Opponents
3. Profit

If the thinking is, "We can galvanize our fanbase with a great record", then I guess the schedule makes sense. The problem is we've been down this road before. Whitesell's last season was the first time we started off 7-0 since '62-63. However, we didn't improve versus the horrendous teams we played, and it showed when we were crushed in the Horizon League.

That said, selling beer is always a great strategy.
