Just spoke to Milt's mother. She says there's a chance he could be ready to go when the season starts if rehab goes well.
I wouldn't take this as definitive news because she's not a doctor or a coach, just a mother. But I trust that she knows the situation well since she is Milt's mother after all.
I'm waiting to hear back from Moser still.

If he's unable to go he will definitely qualify for a medical redshirt and won't lose a year of eligibility.

He's already sat out a year (his freshman year as a transfer from Kansas) which started the 5 year clock. He'll need to appeal to the NCAA for a 6th year, which is as much of a crap-shoot as they come.

Loyola press release:

http://www.loyolaramblers.com/sports/m- ... 14aaa.html

Quote:
The versatile guard will undergo an intensive, five-to-six week rehabilitation program, after which he will be re-evaluated. A decision on whether to return to the basketball court or have surgery, which would sideline Doyle for 7-9 months, could be made at that point.

So he's out for the first 3 games (Rockhurst (probably a win w/o him), McKendree (probably a win w/o him), Michigan St. (probably a loss even with him)) and doesn't come back until sometime around the UTSA game (still a very winnable game without him) or the Kent St. game. Did I say I thought we should schedule tough D-1 schools to open up the season? I take that back...

Losing Doyle will make a challenging season even worse, but I'm trying to remain hopeful he will play. I can't imagine he has any interest in sitting out another year. If there's any way he can go, I think he will. Hell, he wanted to practice last Saturday. Obviously he was held out for good reason, but it did seem like he was feeling ok. Hopefully the treatment plan is a success, and like someone pointed out, we don't really need him for 5 or 6 weeks so there's no need to rush it.

Of course, reading about labrum injuries, it seems like they don't generally heal on their own so surgery may be a necessity at some point. And if you play with it, one wrong bump and you can dislocate your shoulder... Just a bad situation.

If he is held out for the year, my money is on Donte to have a breakout season.

I think best case scenario for LU is that he'll have to have surgery come mid-March, and then it's the new head coach's problem to sort out from there. It just kind of reeks of the Jordan Hicks situation.
