Why would ND open?

Bey is as good as any coach in the country and would immediately get another job.

ND hasn't made the tournament since 2017. Losing records two of the last three years.

Really don’t mean to be distracting from this big week. But Joe Henricksen wrote an article in the Sun Times pushing HARD for DePaul to hire Porter. Spent half the article talking about that, and the other half discussing all the other options.

It takes two to tango. DePaul can try as hard as they want, but if Porter has no interest it won't matter. Indiana would be a more attractive job than DePaul.

I love good fiction. None of those head coaches from established schools are going to look at the DePaul job - much less take it. It is where old recycled coaches go to get one last paycheck. I am sure Hurley and the Martins appreciate getting mentioned. It may generate a pay increase. Scheyer needs only to look to Evanston to realize trying to build a program in Chicago will be difficult. He's going to wait for a better job. The only real candidates in the article are Gates, Medved and Payne. DePaul may try to land some recycled coach. I think Pitino is available. They would be better off getting a young coach. I would be surprised if the coach they pick is not connected to Kentucky.

I enjoyed the Sun Times article because of its focus on what an asset Porter Moser would be, while conveniently ignoring the fact that DePaul is a complete dumpster fire that will take YEARS to build up.

It's not a better program than what he has at Loyola NOW. he won't compete for conference titles, he won't compete at the Big East Tournament, and he won't make the NCAA for at least 4 years... I'm not saying he couldn't fix them... but he's not going to do it overnight.

This is a big week... by Monday... Porter very well might be sitting on the top of the college basketball world... And if he is... he's going to have 2 choices: 1) leave for a big-time program with a history of winning, or 2) stay at program he built from the ground up. A sweet 16 appearance would mean that he unequivocally stole basketball prominence in the state of Illinois away from the Illini, and brought it home to Rogers Park. If his reward for that is going to a Big East cellar-dweller, what's the point of being successful?

I don't want to be too gloom and doom...but, there is a scenario where Porter can make DePaul competitive year one. And I feel gross saying it. But he can convince guys like Krut, Lucas, etc. (or some combination of them) to go with him and play their final "free" year in the Big East.

That seems paranoid in the extreme

To answer your question GoRamblers, Porter is too classy to do that. I don't think he has any interest in that job, and I think he has too much respect to convince our current ramblers to jump ship and make depaul competitive. That would be a total dick move, and thankfully he wouldn't do that.
