Picked to finish 2nd in Conference USA, behind Western Kentucky. Potential tournament team. And it looks like they’re led by Javion Hamlet, who we recruited pretty heavily a couple years ago.

That's where Roosevelt Smart ended up, finishing his three-year career last season. He started off like gangbusters, but his playing time dropped each season as he had a calf injury and a DWI. Still ended up scoring more than 1100 points there. Helped them win the CBI in 2018 as a sophomore, when he scored 700+ points.

They've had three straight 20-win seasons and won CUSA last year.

Here's another weird coincidence-- both Loyola and North Texas played Eureka in 2017-18.

So the Ramblers finish non conference play this season with a 5-2 record. This year the NCAA allowed for 25 regular season games (if you didn’t play in a MTE). We hit the magic #25 with last night’s game as we didn’t get to play in a MTE this season. 18 conference games plus the 7 non conference games already played equals 25. The North Texas game was a great pickup. Hope Loyola goes to Denton, TX this coming Nov. or Dec.

Drake absolutely housed SIU in the last 6-8 minutes. Damn good team.

Drake is the real deal. They're much more physical than they've ever been since Loyola's been in the conference.

Hope they win tomorrow so we get an undefeated Drake next Sunday. Marquee matchup.

Very different styles. They get a lot of offensive rebounds, we excel at defensive rebounding. We share the ball (high assist rate), they have a bunch of guys who can create their own shot--including threes. You can't lose focus for a second on defense.

Gonna be interesting. We'll be the first proven veteran team they've faced all year. SIU's marquee win against Butler doesn't look as great now that Butler is 2-5... SIU plays really hard on defense but their offense can get ugly if you stop Domask + prevent easy 3's.

Much like us Drake is deep. They have 6-7 guys you have to worry about on any given night. Like ahunte mentioned lot of great ISO players... Hemphill, Penn, and Wilkins all are lethal, and Sturz just works. They'll also make you pay for lazy passes.

I haven't seen a Drake game yet. Have they gained anybody that gets minutes? Or is this the same squad more or less sans Robbins?

edit: FWIW KenPom has Drake's SOS at 303 out of 357.

Robbins was a big loss. he lit it up for Minnesota yesterday (27 pts, 14 rbs) I thought they were finished but apparently they have resurected themselves and that Sturz guy is a competitor....

Shanquan Hemphill is a Green Bay transfer. He's a uber athletic high flyer and their leading scorer. They also have a 6'10, 275 center in Darnell Brodie who transferred from Seton Hall... Dude is HUGE and been a real solid post for them. There's also Joseph Yesufu out of Bolingbrook. He didn't play a ton last year but is now averaging 8 points a game... Last but not least is DJ Wilkins. He was outstanding as a freshman, but tore his ACL before the conference tournament. He had a down year last season but looks healthy again and is shooting over 50% from 3 on 66 attempts.
