Bowling Green is now in the CIT after losing to Eastern Michigan in the MAC tourney last night-- they're a really interesting team. Coached by Chris Jans (his first year after being top assistant at Wichita State), won 20 D1 games (and curiously, lost their only non D1 game), and one of the few schools that has a longer NCAA tournament drought than we do (haven't been to NCAA since 1968). Obviously, Jans is trying to build the program into a consistent winner, and sees the CIT as a stepping stone.

If we're going to do it, I wish the Athletic Dept would announce it ASAP to provide more time to hype it up/sell tickets/generally promote it.

That's what leads me to believe that we aren't going to be accepting.

Either that, or they are waiting on the CBI before committing to the CIT

Well. to use my term, IT IS NOW RUG CUTTIN' TIME. It is a bad thing not to be chosen --We have little control over that--BUT it would be worse if LUC turned down an invite--Our team deserves a shot, period. No excuses.
Yes 05 you should start to be worried--

My reputation over all the years I have contributed to this Board, has been a positive stance--EXCEPT when Amin types get into the action--Fr G and his vocal positions and directives have been encouraging--Gentile Expansion, entry into the Valley Conf etc--BUT has the Admin really committed to going "whole hog" as it were . to get us back to elite status ? On this one big item , I am not the optimist that I want to be.

Now is the time---
---To announce one way or another--
--------Do we have an invite or not ?
--------Do we accept or not ?

The CBI will probably announce their full slate all at once on Sunday after the NIT and NCAA selections.

There are four MAC teams playing tonight-- Eastern Michigan, Akron, Kent State, and Toledo. All of them are between 76-129 in the RPI, all have between 19-21 wins. Whichever two teams lose tonight will be in the CIT-CBI if they choose. Toledo and Kent State could play their way into the NIT if they lose in the MAC Final.

There are a lot of teams that could be in CBI contention, but may not take the bid because they view themselves more highly-- like Florida State, Clemson, UNLV (if they lose today to San Diego State), TCU (if they lose to Kansas today), Penn State (currently losing to Iowa), etc. But there are some that may have already stated interest in playing if they don't go forward.

If there is going to be an announcement of CBI-CIT participation by Loyola, I'd hope that they'd do it before tomorrow afternoon, even if they're not sure whether it will be one or the other. There should be enough of the fields known publicly or privately (in both of the tournaments) by tomorrow to make a commitment/decision. People need time to make arrangements to attend, buy tickets, make travel plans, etc.

I agree with JCT that if we are going to host a game, it would be beneficial to announce it as soon as we can, especially given our attendance issues. If we are planning to go on the road, it's probably less important.

I believe that Toledo will get an NIT bid, but I would not mind playing Bowling Green. BGSU is a very interesting team, because they are a lot like us. They have been in the dumps for a a while, but got themselves a new coach, and build themselves a brand new arena (smaller than their older one), and despite having a good team and a winning record, could not draw ANY FANS to their games. They too are looking for a "culture change" and seem to be pointed in the right direction.

Didn't Loyola and Bowling Green used to have a Tradition of playing on New Years Eve every year? I don't recall us playing them any time within the past 20 years. I would love to host them in the CIT if we ever get our stuff together and announce if/where we are playing...
