What did UIC have to give up to DePaul to get them to come to their building?
Because of the size of their arena, UIC is able to attract a lot of larger conference teams to play there. Two years ago they hosted Northwestern and SMU. (They've hosted Northwestern four or five times since the last time we played NU, and DePaul two or three times). They've hosted many other teams we can't seem to get: Marquette (1997-98), Oregon (1999-2000), Georgia Tech (2004-05), Ole Miss and Davidson (2005-06), Oregon State (2009-10), Colorado State (2011-12), etc. All or most of those games were straight home and home arrangements.
Now that we're in a better conference and coming off a good year, we should be able to get some better scheduling. That's one of the reasons Creighton has finally made good on their return game. Hopefully the better expected RPI we'll carry the next couple of years will help overcome resistance because of the size of Gentile. Teams will play you in a large empty building sooner than they'll play you in a tightly packed venue-- or so I've heard.
