I knew I could count on Swella to get all the facts right. His legal training is really on display.
My hats off to you Swella. Has it really been that long ago? (that's not a question, just a statement of amazement).
You are right about the passage of time. We have seen a lot of mediocre basketball. PM is the real deal. Lets hope the new regime gives him the tools to get the job done.

Not an official announcement, but Matt Gordon's twitter feed has a photo of the team volunteering at Miseracordia, and I'm pretty sure Igor C. is in it.

Sorry Brot to tell you this but the mess in Springfield over budget shortfalls affected the State of Illinois and its funding via grants and other programs to universities.
I don't know all the details but I do know as a fact that all departments of the university had to "take a haircut" as they say. And that including athletics and the drip, drip, drip down to each sport and that included basketball.
So, they are actually operating with less than before.
Sad to say.
So when someone bitches about our "turnover in coaches" it is not because of the head coach but rather because the perks that bigger schools are able to offer its coaches are just not there. Sad to say, but our program is second rate in terms of support. If Father G. was still calling the shots I am a firm believer the result for athletics would have been different.
Of course, I cannot disclose the multiple sources that told me the same thing but I do know the funding cuts were a fact.

HI !! 25, I fail to understand your post--What does Springfield and its budget have to do with us. But then I do not have an inkle of today's rules/ Do WE get public funds ?? Back in the day--when I was in school. we were a true PRIVATE institution. But as I say--I do NOT have an inkle of today's stuff

THE sad thing about my home state is the sad shape it is in. BTW Ohio is in fine shape--Nice surplus. I am sad to think Illinois got in trouble.

In any case I woulsd appreciate a further explanation of your post THANKS

If they're eligible, Illinois students get something called MAP grants they can use to attend Illinois schools. It's a good chunk of tuition for students who come from families that aren't that well off. The past few years the program has been cut, suspended, or limited because of state finances and budget disagreements between Democrats (the majority of the legislature) and Republicans (the Governor and enough legislators to keep from overriding a veto). Although Loyola doesn't receive funds directly from the state, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (who administers the MAP grants) provides a good part (15-20%) of the tuition amount to lower income students. That affects enrollment, and the amount Loyola provides in grants to lower income students. Hence the money crunch.

Loyola students receive about 10 million in MAP grants. Last year the university covered it and finally the state paid last years bill. That does leave a shortfall for the current year. This year Loyola has its largest freshman class and is experiencing overcrowding in the dorms. If a 6% cut across the board was instituted and the rumor was it was going to be 10%, there is more to this story than a MAP grant. I have yet to read an article about the budget cut or a solid reporting of how much it is, but these numbers just don't add up. Something else is going on and if there's is silence from the university, it has to be trouble.

Pure speculation, but Calhoun's defalcations, Kelly's meal allowance, and Rooney's pant suit reimbursements might have put a big hole in the budget.

Thanks People !! It goes to show how out of touch I am and have been about these matters . I should have suspected something when G-son Bradley . who finished Walsh Jesuit HS with First Honors--a 3.95 grade score--and received a better deal from OHIO ST than he did at LUC--I really never gave it a thought..

Well, I guess we roll with what we have--WE shall do well anyway !!

Thanks again !!
