Of course, I should have added that if basketball is the biggest consideration we might be in trouble there, too ;)

I think the lack of an engineering program is Loyola's biggest obstacle in signing O'Mara.

Maybe we can convince him of the merits of getting a Loyola degree in Pastoral Leadership, or Music with an emphasis in Sacred Music - by pointing out all the career opportunities they offer!

Actually, Loyola does have an engineering program...kind of. One of my friends actually went through the dual degree program in physics and engineering. He received his Physics degree from Loyola and the engineering degree from Wash. U in St. Louis.

So, O'Mara can play at Loyola for two years, and then go D3 at Wash U for two years!

Or he can go to Loyola for three years (which is generally how many years people in the dual degree program stay) and then go to U of I for his engineering degree and play in the BIG 10.

...or he can just cross Loyola off of his list.

I think if he really wanted to be an engineer, then he would have crossed us off the list a long time ago. I would imagine Purdue having been on him in the beginning, why not them over us in the final 6? This could be WSU highlighting one of their stronger academic departments on the visit.

Also when it comes to incoming freshman and career choices, some have specific dreams, goals, and aspirations coming in and stick with it through four years (Averkamp and Gibler with their medical degrees come to mind). Others change their minds during their college career. Joe Crisman enrolled as a pre-med student, and I believe he now majors in finance. A specific program might not be the biggest draw for this kid, especially if he isn't dead set on becoming an engineering major.

checked the Xavier site and doesn't look like they have engineeing as a major either. Can't imagine that he would have high interest in two schools with out engineering programs if that was his career aspiration. Go for it Porter ... make it happen ... Go Ramblers!
