I'll give the team a C+ on this one. Obviously they took UMKC's youthful energy for granted, and may have been distracted by the Richardson/Custer homecoming. The first half was an F, plain and simple. The second half was almost a mirror image of the 1st half, where we outscored them by 16 and outrebounded them by 8. So the 2nd half was maybe a B+ or maybe an A-.

Wish we could have gotten more minutes from the bench, because we've got travel and a game on Sunday. We had four players put in 33 minutes or more. But I think it was a good lesson at a good time for this team.

A good road win and I don't mean to take anything away from that. It looked to me like it took 30 minutes or so to get over the Eureka game which was totally undisciplined and, I believe, an overall negative in preparing the team for UMKC as well as the rest of the season. That game also killed the momentum we had going in student support. I'd rather see a Summit team or a home and home against a MAC team (if those are not options, I'd be glad to hear the explanation) than see Rockhurst or Eureka on our court again. Nothing good come from those gym night games.

I can't give a road win anything less than a solid B.

We were down by 4 at half and won by 10, so the second half "good" outweighs the first half "bad".

But I agree: it is absolutely imperative that we can go at least 9 deep by February. From the bench, I'm real confident with Krutwig and Satterwhite in there, so that's 7. Skokna is clearly getting an opportunity, and I like that Williamson is seeing a few minutes here and there. My fingers are crossed on Negron and Avery. Negron can flat out play. We will get there.

I agree. We need to play as many as possible at this point. Shanks looked decent. Not sure why we can’t give him a few minutes a game in the non-conference to help us down the road.

I do not think Shanks can guard anyone other than a post up center......so if there 4 and 5 are mobile he is outta luck...also the center has to double team up top on the ball screen and then recover . do not see him being able to do that ;;;;;so the answer to me is in his inability to defend in the type of man to man LU has consistently played under Coach Moser

Some thoughts so far
--We are a decent team which is close to jelling --
We came back nicely--The sign of a good team---ON THE ROAD no less
We have a ton of guns--This time it was Custer and Jackson--Ingram and Townes next ??
--And then we have Krutwig and Satterwhite
Then maybe our two injured guys will add on

Defense --all the time will carry us forward so long as we keep on scoring as we are doing
Krutwig is playing well in limited minutes--LOTS of boards and STUFF

My suggestions to relpace EUREKA and the like---ST BONNY HOLY CROSS CLEVE ST SEATTLE LU MARY E or W KY E or W ILL There are so many more -- wager we could find a lot more if only Moser and Watson would do it !!!!

RAMBLERS are coming on !!!

Happy to get past the first road game of the year with this team. We all knew the press would present some issues but I was not prepared for the first half rebounding issues. Overall happy to walk away with the W and to see Coach make some nice half time adjustments.

Samford can really score so hopefully the rebounding effort we saw in the second half translates to Sunday because we cant give up all those second chance looks against a better offensive team.

Awesome to have the game on Comcast. Sign of a veteran team to lay an egg in first half on the road and come back strong for a win.

For what it’s worth, we played there in December of ‘07. Recall the arena being a really odd facility with strange lighting and the gym was freezing cold. Doesn’t really explain TOs but maybe a reason for poor shooting in the first half.

My take is that it is a road win, good comeback.
I agree Eureka game is a waste of time and does not contribute
any preparedness for more difficult competition. In fact, I think
it allows our players to assume they are progressing when in fact the opposition is
not up to speed. Thank goodness no one was hurt during that game. I am glad Ben and Clayton had the opportunity to play in front of family and friends. I also think there was undoubtedly some distraction with Richardson and Custer homecoming issues.
I do like the flexibility Porter has with big and small lineups, etc.
I believe team chemistry will gel as we go on. Because of our poor
performance agains the Wright State press, you can believe every one earth will continue
with the same until we burn them for it regularly.
Unfortunately that press detracts from our fast pace and puts us into half court offense,
traditionally not our strength, although Krutwig could change that by controlling the area by the rim.
Always problems, but thats why it is interesting. Finally I agree that it would be nice to allow more bench play early in year, as there seems to be talent there waiting to get meaningful experience, which to me means MVC conference play. Hopefully Porter lets that happen. We have to look at the long haul here, not just each and every non- con game result. Go Ramblers.

Satterwhite only got 7 minutes.....I was hoping we would see more minutes out of him this year.......He looks improved over last year....but at this point not as much as I had hoped.......Still an incomplete puzzle depending on how much time Negron and Avery will get upon their return........season in development
