I feel bad for Illinois State fans. When we first got into the conference, most of them were ripping the decision for us to get the invite. They didn’t think we could field the talent to compete.

Fast forward to present day, and there isn’t even a recruiting battle between Loyola and the Redbirds. Chicagoland is picked over by the Power 5 conferences, Loyola and DePaul get to compete for the diamonds in the rough ... and Illinois State gets whatever may be left.... and it shows.

Watching Loyola move the ball around vs. ISU’s stand-around and fire a three offense is night and day. The gap we’ve created between our program and theirs in such a short period of time is staggering.

At this point, their best hope is that Porter leaves more than them during Muller. It’s the only way they will have a chance to be more respectable against us.

Good luck to their new athletic director... He’s going to have some tough decisions to make if he doesn’t want the gap to grow even larger.

They have a lot of young guys on their team. But to be frank, their young guys are just OK. I would take our freshmen/sophomores over theirs any day. I think we could beat them by 10+ without Braden/Lucas/Tate/Aher/Krut seeing a single minute of playing time.

I don't think Reeves is that bad, but that is true about recruiting. Hell, I think Drake, SIU, and Bradley do a better job recruiting Chicagoland than IlSU. UIC will probably pick it up too. I wouldn't fire Muller, but if they do, I wonder if they'll be able to peel Yaklich away from UIC. I think Yaklich might be a little too loyal to Muller as a friend to replace him.

Good post, but it doesn't explain why you feel bad for them.

Aher was quietly extremely effective in his time. Good on him.

As expected Tate also had a bounce back game, loved how aggressive he was.

I am praying that Aher’s play is because of Aher and not just the bad team we played both nights. He’s looked like a completely different player than what we’ve seen from him. The other good news? Historically, he’s had his best games against Bradley, so next series should be interesting!

Watching the guys play tonight reminded me of 2018 again. The ball movement, hitting big shots, making free throws, not letting off the gas .... they just looked like a unit tonight. If they can keep that intensity level there is no doubt this team can do great things.

I’m wondering what people think of Hutson? So far, from what I’ve seen, I think he’s farther along than Frank was his freshmen year (and even last year). I wasn’t thrilled about forcing Welch into the 5-spot, but I have to admit, it’s not failing. Welch looks great, but I’m still pretty excited about Hutson for the future. I’m also worried about where Frank fits into the equation if/when he comes back. At this point, is he going to be able to contribute any meaningful minutes and/or is he a better option at backup than Welch or Hutson?

To answer your question on Hutson, I think he's doing great so far. Obviously, he has only played three games so far with limited minutes, but he was very impressive in the St. Francis game. I think he is playing better out of the gate than Hebb is. Let's hope Krut takes him under his wing and teaches him a lot.

I agree, I think he's shown good hands pretty good strength. I'm impressed, especially given that he was expected to take a redshirt year to develop.

Hutson is a really exciting player. I agree that he looks better overall than Frank did last year (albeit, in very limited minutes comparably). When healthy, I still think Frank retains his role as backup center to Krut. Frank has really strong defense (when not fouling) and the ability to disrupt things downlow. I trust him more guarding guys like Phyfe, Prim, etc. than I do Hutson.

So Uguak for the two ISU games.....7-7 from the field , 2-2 from 3 , 1-1 from the line(so he didnt miss a shot!). 4 assists, 2 turnovers...small sample but pretty good series
