Here's my recap of the game with some quotes from Coach Moser and Christian Thomas, as well as from UIC's Coach Moore and Marc Brown.

It was a fun first experience at Gentile Arena!

Overall I thought this was a good game and good win for the Ramblers.

You clean up some turnovers and the rebounding and it's a 10 point win. I think UIC had 5-6 offensive rebounds in the last five minutes alone.

As for the officiating, I thought it was okay. You don't see the ticky-tack carrying violation called often, though. I thought both charges that went against us were bad calls. They also missed Barlow almost throwing Doyle to the floor to get a rebound and three point play at the end. Brot, it was actually Crisman who initiated the conversation with the official, not the other way around.

UIC brought almost zero fans to the game, which was disappointing.

I after that poor start to the game we picked it up and played a pretty good game. I thought the refs were a little inconsistent but not much we can do about that. I was confused by Johnson and King not getting any minutes I figured we could have used them. The attendance was alright but not great. I was hoping more of my fellow students would be coming out but I guess the cold and finals didn't help. Also on campus this game wasn't promoted as well as other games this seasons I thought it was kind of weird because of it being a rivalry game and all. Though it was good to beat UIC and I feel the team is improving and working better together.

PS Did anyone see the sleeping UIC fan a couple rows above the UIC bench?

Offense finally looks like it has some flow to it, loved seeing us actually getting the ball inside. Osbourne needs to be big for us, and our offense looks way better when he's on the court.

Crowd was small but I thought actually pretty loud all things considered. Even with the refs complaining repeatedly about "abuse." Lighten up, guys.

Don't forget them missing O'leary getting punched in the junk early in the game and Osborne getting clipped in the face (causing him to bleed).

In fairness, the students were on one of the refs in particular. It was a bit comical and mean at the same time. I wonder if the 2 students that were kicked out were a result of the refs complaining.

I thought I saw that. Was going to mention it on the O'Leary thread but I wasn't sure. He got pretty beat up yesterday.

Maybe I should amend my statement and say the officiating was somewhere south of "okay".

Believe so!

I heard that also part of the reason was they started a Hayden sucks chant about #13 on UIC when the camera was on them for a promotion during the game. This game had alot of personal attack chants from us students especially the Barfight Barlow chants. I think it went a little overboard at some points.

Well. of course I was home in Akron free-loading on ESPN 3--but even I saw some , shall I say off of center refereeing . Now then, our students ?? Well not so long ago we did not have many at games-- and then they were fairly somber . Now if our kids were abusive--maybe they should tone it down some--but if you want to see and hear abuse, try DUKE or NEW MEXICO !! Now THAT is abuse Big Time.
I do not condone personal stuff--but I do like our youngsters gettin' wild. The home court is an advantage, or should be..Back in a recent day, ours was not.

My advice--Get wild but keep it clean and non-personal.

More importantly, our guys are starting to play real Hoops--I love it. They appear to be doing the little things--alley-ooops. cuts to the hole--passoffs and follow ups--That is what I saw--Keep it going.

I want three more home wins before we really begin. I am encouraged--but I have said that before.

Brot. Mostly agree. It makes me feel good to be at a game and see the students having fun....Not a big fan of using the SUCK term in anything....but I would turn the whole game day experience over to them. let them pick the music,,, the games... etc. We spend so much time trying to imitate what others do at big programs..I would rather be unique.....It actually reminded me of the the time I chased Dick Vitalee out into the parking lot when he was coaching Detroit and if you think he could yell as an announcer you should have seen him yell at officials as a coach!!
