College basketball's final minute is boring to a lot of people, but it's way more fun when you're the team up 2+ possessions and shooting free throws.

No doubt. It was weird to feel so comfortable in that end of game situation! Tiny bit of drama, but I wasn't reaching for the Mylanta.

The Stats tell this story ! We shot over .530--We out boarded a bigger team and had a ton of assists !! We have solid nine man rotation ----In other words we played one heck of a game---And BTW the home crowd was sullen I thought !!

Good for Porter on getting this one. No doubt it means something to him to win on that court.

It is still odd to me that we actually have so many talented players who can step up in big moments for the team. I’m so used to pinning my hopes on Loyola winning on the one and only go-to player we had (i.e. David Bailey, Blake Schilb, and even Doyle to some extent). Now we’ve got guys that can have off nights and we still can win games. I don’t even know if I could tell you who our “best” player is this year - so much talent spread around. Really hope we keep winning. This is such an interesting team to watch!

Fantastic game. And we did all the things we had to:

1. Limit Milik Yarbrough’s points; make others beat you.

He had 13 points-- almost five below his average-- and although he had 8 assists, he had NINE turnovers and only had six field goal attempts.

2. Get to the free throw line often, and make your shots.

We were 16 of 18 at the line.

3. Take (and make) quality three-point shots.

We shot over the magic 30% on threes that you need to beat ISU, going six for 17.

4. Catch them in transition.

We had three or four fast breaks before their defense set up.

5. Win the turnover battle.

We had 15, they had 18.

After the game, Ben Richardson and Porter had a great moment-- a bit of relief, laughing together, and maybe a few words about how the game ended last year, when Ben's near half-court heave almost went in for the winner. (They played the clip of that shot in last year's game, four times from different angles in fast and slow motion on the center court video board as one of their time out features.....)

As Porter was congratulating players, Avery gave a reluctant hug. Satterwhite made a really bad play that got him pulled, Avery didn't play at all. I watched Avery warming up, and I hope he's not a lost cause. I think he needs to resolve to work harder, because there's a big, fat opportunity for him to play a LOT next year.

The ISU student section was trying to fluster senior and grisled veteran Ben Richardson for having an air ball on a rushed three...

I was at the exit tunnel when the teams left the court and shouted congratulations to Porter--- he looked so happy to get a win in that building.

Saw Rob Hayes and family at the game-- he said they had nothing to do and drove down from the West Suburbs. I told him I've been there five years in a row watching us trying to get a win, and they brought good luck.

Lucas Williamson continues to impress.... He made so many plays on both sides of the ball--- six points, three rebounds, two steals, one assist and zero turnovers in 27 minutes.

Bruno's first half.... and Custer's leadership in the second half.

Great team win all around, four players in double figures, great help off the bench, and a lot of players doing valuable little things.

Ben Richardson only had two points and one rebound. But he was a +10 in the plus/minus. Jackson took ten shots at the basket (field goals and free throws combined) and scored 15 points... nice.

On the way home, the ISU radio announcers were talking about Loyola's efficiency, and said that the Ramblers average the lowest number of field goal attempts per game nationally. Loyola had only 44 field goal attempts, but scored 68 points.... That's pretty efficient. I'll have to look that up....

And we won the rebound battle, 27-24..... Wow!

Fun little nugget from the game. The kid Jackson dunked over?

Taylor Bruninga; who's recruitment came down to ISU and us (UNI was in the final three but by most indications seemed to be a distant third).

JCT- According to team rankings dot com, we are indeed last in D1 in FGA per game at 49.7. That's wild. We should shoot more, right? We are pretty good at it.

Seriously though, we shoot a very high percentage and don't get many offensive rebounds, so it stands to reason we will get fewer attempts.

Our opponents get 56.4 FGA per game.

Didn't realize it last night, but that was ISU's first home conference since Jan 15, 2016.They were 19-1 in the past 20 home conference games before last night.

I think Ben did a lot defensively last night. I know for a good portion of the game he was on Yarbrough. Shutting him down was a big part of the win.

I’m guessing there will be a lot of Bradley fans there Saturday (judging by the ticket map, a LOT will be there). Will the students be back yet?

Classes start the following Tuesday. I'd guess you may see some, but not a ton.
