Agree Santos is a big loss for UIC. But, the return of Dikembe Dixon from injury is more likely reason he would lose minutes and transfer. How about Zion Morgan transferring from Nevada Las Vegas?.

Morgans interesting, we offered him before he committed to UNLV. From what I've seen he had a meh freshmen year, but it's also just his freshmen year. Could definitely be worth a look!

I know graduate transfers have been mentioned a couple times. The hardest thing about that is I believe the player must study something that isn't offered at their current school. For example, Simone Law on the women's side had a year and wanted to get a master's in criminal justice. Since we don't have that program she transferred to U of I and could use her last year of eligibility. She couldn't have gone there to study accounting since she could've studied that here.

I don't know if we offer a lot of unique degrees that other schools don't. Most colleges and universities have all the programs we do, especially a large public school like Michigan. Therefore, I think it's just really hard for us to get guys like Mark Donnel who would probably be a really good addition. It's the NCAA's way of trying to prevent players from graduating early solely to transfer since they already have a transfer issue. I'm not a big fan of the rule. I think if a someone graduates the NCAA should be happy and let them go wherever to play.

Also Tank, I'm not familiar with grad transfers, but does this remain true even if the team actively revoked a scholarship? That's what Michigan did with Donnel.

Didn't know that was his case. I think if the scholarship is revoked, not renewed, or if he gets a release from the school then he can go wherever, so he could sign with us and play. I've been trying to figure out a lot of the transfer rules for a couple years now. Some of them get confusing and vague, but that shows up more in football than basketball.

Granic is probably the odd man out, but there could also be a late, Jon Gac/Treyvon Andres-esqe transfer that blindsides the staff.

As for graduate transfers, yes, the academic program at the new school must not be offered at the old school. However, I think a lot of kids will just jump into a vaguely interesting program not at the old school. I think a big factor in where a graduate transfer lands is ability to win. For example, Spike Albrecht would have been a nice player for us, a 18-14, 8-10 mid major team. He also was a nice player for Purdue, one of the best teams in the country. The scarcity of them + the ability to plug holes immediately unlike the normal transfers who have to sit out a year means demand is high and the top teams like Purdue will get first dibs.

La Lumiere just won the high school national championship on ESPN. We have an offer out to their point guard Coleman Lands. He looked good. Made some little mistakes with some fouls, but had some really nice assists. It would be nice to land a kid out of a big time program like that

Darn, that's two recruits we've lost to Columbia in two years. Mike Smith from Fenwick had a good freshman year with them. I'm disappointed.

I wonder if we might take a look at the Williamson kid from Whitney Young. He was first team all state but seems grossly under-recruited for his high school accomplishments. Plus he's Porter's favorite height at 6'4".
