AD Watson kind of addressed this......that it is just tough to get the major teams to come here....not only us but for other mids as well. That if you are lucky you can get a two away and one home. With our attendance as poor as it is you ticket and game day stuff does not come close to covering the cost. As much as we dont like to talk about it,,,,,cash is a difference maker in a lot of ways......Again it seems like they are starting the long neglected process of developing more corporate sponsors,,,,,deeper more complete alumni contacts etc.
INteresting that LU spends about 3% and that St. BOnnies where he was at previously spent 15%. He was not complaining just explaining. He did not see that changing. Hence a renewed effort to mine other sources.
But he said they were definitely trying to improve scheduling including pairing with other Chicago teams for the old doubleheaders.

Nate,
Read your post, and wonder three percent of what does LU spend, and on what, IE mens basketball, athletics in general, ????
Interesting stuff.
Please advise.

I took it to mean 3% of the total budget on the whole athletic program. He had the stats and visuals to show we compared to other MVC teams and to sum it up we were near the bottom in almost every expenditure category and tops in tuition cost....Also interesting was when he explained scholarships and that some programs for one reason or another are not at full usage.

Not speaking of school because this is all public info, but the 3% refers to the athletics budget of about $14 million (link) as a portion of the $500 million university budget (link, pg. 5).

also interesting information for me anyway at the meeting was that the ESPN3 MVC contract is unfortunately not a difference maker in terms of cash.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, according to the first link our budget for men's basketball is top half in the MVC at around 2.8 million. Is that correct?
