Per his twitter account 6'5 Wing Adarius Avery visited this past weekend. He was the third leading scorer in NJCAA and ranked by one service as the 36th best player in JUCO.

He averaged 24.1 ppg while shooting 48%. Also managed to grab 10.9 boards per game and dish out 3.8 assists.

One week he did this so:

Vlatko was notably absent from the banquet. Everybody else was there (sans Kirby, of course).

Not too surprised. I believe "signing day" is today, and we knew that some guys have visits that they're taking before deciding on a school. To play DI players can sign between today and May 17. I don't like waiting, but I guess I'll have to before next year's roster is set.

Avery looks like a really nice addition. Those numbers are quite impressive

No idea if we'd have a shot here, but it's interesting news

We have to go after this kid. He's been a player his whole high school career and made a big impact on an NCAA bubble team last year as a freshman. Berkeley also increased their standards for athletes in the past couple of years, so the kid will not be lost academically at Loyola.

All the big schools will be in on him (Missouri and Illinois especially), but the Chicago 5 will have a slight edge as he probably qualifies for a waiver to play right away because his father is pretty sick (a stroke has left him pretty much incapacitated). He might not get that waiver if he follows Cuonzo Martin to Missouri; pretty tough to say it's a personal move when you're still an 8 hour car trip away from Chicago. NU and DePaul might have an edge because of conference and the Rahm Emanual Welfare Arena will come in handy for DPU because it'll be a lot easier to get to for the family than all the way up on the North Side.

We need to go all out and if it's a no, get a hard no from him. Maybe ask him multiple times just to make sure before we give up. He could most certainly be an all-conference player in the Valley. He'll be a bridge from the seniors (Custer maybe included) to the younger guys at a position where we have no clear replacement and he'll be a jolt of local energy into the program, capitalizing off of whatever momentum we've gotten in recruiting circles from Milt and Donte.

We're definitely third on the list behind northwestern and DePaul. If DePaul lands him and Brian Bowen they could become a real player in the Big East. Would be an instant starter at LU and a player of the year contender in the Valley perhaps from the jump.

That said I feel awful that that's why he's transferring. Thoughts and prayers to the Moore family.

Closer is also a vague term. A few years ago in football, Ty Isaac was transferring from USC to be closer to his ill mother in Joliet. He ended up going to Michigan. I realize that there are way more basketball schools than football schools near by, but I'm not getting my hopes too far up. There are a lot of big schools that are closer than California.

In the end, I just hope that Moore chooses the right school given the situation. I hate to see someone have to choose between a school they really like and an ill family member. I can't imagine making that choice. Best of luck to him. I pray for the best outcome for him and his family.
