I heard on Monday afternoon that Alfie Norville, the wife of Loyola great Al Norville, passed away over the weekend.
Al played for Loyola in the late fifties. He averaged 13.9 points and nine rebounds per game. He is a 1960's graduate. He attended Fenwick high school.
Al and Alfie resided in Tucson and have a summer home in Alaska.
After an injury decimated Al's NBA dream (he had been contacted by several teams), he began a commercial real estate business which was obviously very successful. He was a driving force in making the current Norville center a reality. (hence the Norville name on the building).
Al is a quality human being who embraces Loyola values.
If you google his name there is a nice four minute clip on EVOKE of him speaking at a Loyola gathering.
I am sure that Brot saw Al play.
Please join me in passing on condolences to Al in the passing of Alfie his wife of over forty eight years.
