Saw the report that UIC has let Howard Moore go. I'm not overly surprised, for whatever reasons he hasn't been able to build a winner there, but always difficult to see. Howard is a great man and a great coach. No question he'll land on his feet given his recruiting ability. Believe he was the lead assistant that landed Kaminsky @ Wisconsin, among others.

Moore's problem was quite simple. He could not pay recruits' coaches in the P league as was done in the past. Too much integrity. All kidding aside, he is a great guy.
You are right. He will land on his feet. Not surprised that this happened though. The Flames never really got lit.

Still nothing about it yet on the UIC board, after they've been clamoring for his ouster for a year and a half. I expected them to have potential coaches' resumes by now.

Moore was indeed a great guy when he was at Loyola, and has a great record as a top assistant at Wisconsin. Some coach in the Midwest would be smart to grab him up as a top assistant.

Wonder what this does to the future of the Loyola/UIC non-con series after this contract runs out? A four year contract was signed and has two years remaining. @ LU in 2015-16 and @ UIC in 2016-17. A new coach at UIC may not want to continue the series.

Our pal is calling for UIC to hire Coach Robinson. If that happens...bring back Moore!

Sigh...I guess we should take it as a compliment if other programs are poaching our assistant coaches, but it would hurt to lose D-Rob.

Robinson is a great guy. While I would like to see us keep him, it would be a great career move and I would wish him the best. Remember he did interview last year with another team. I think it was Missouri. It would not surprise me if he got the job.

Looks like UIC ate two year of Coach Moore's contract. I always thought that UIC was a gem.Nice stadium, close to downtown, decent school. Anybody have ideas on why Coach Moore did not succeed?

Nate:
Four things:
1. Moore did not grease the skids with the public league coaches and the pipeline to the top talent was not filled up.

2. You are right about the UIC attributes.
It was ranked third in the national concrete block association list of top stadiums and number four in the Plastic Seat Association list of stadiums.

3. No Stomper! Word is when he left that alienated top recruits.

4. The Horizon League without Loyola is a crap league unless you love hyphens and the word "state".

I think the place is a total dump. If I was a recruit and I saw that place I would get away as far as I could.

Moore had to clean up some academic problems at UIC after Jimmy Collins. He had to overcome scholarship reductions because of NCAA APR issues (three penalty years out of Jimmy's last four there).

Loyola being in the conference was always one of the big motivators for them, especially for local guys-- it became a part of their identity, really. Beating Loyola, and finishing above Loyola in conference were two of their mandates there for almost 20 years. I don't think it's just a coincidence that they fell to 12-49 in the two years after we left.
