Loyola's postseason run a steppingstone—with a cost Quote: "We're making a significant commitment to play in this tournament," said Loyola Athletic Director Steve Watson, who was hired in November after seven years running the athletic program at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, N.Y. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/ ... serAgent=1 |

Quote: Thanks to Loyola's CBI run, "we're in the news, and the alumni rally around that, they support it," Watson said. "I'm optimistic that the season-ticket fan base is going to start growing." Apparently "Rogers Park School Plays Basketball Game" qualifies as being in the news now... |

Quote from Crain's Article: "The Loyola Ramblers are seeking their first postseason championship since 1963 tonight when they tip off in Game One of a best-of-three series with Louisiana-Monroe for the College Basketball Invitational title." Apparently, Crain's doesn't know about the Ramblers Volleyball Championship! |

I've been listening to ESPN all morning and afternoon. I don't think I've heard one mention about Loyola Basketball...not even in the SportsCenter cuts. Meanwhile, they are currently dedicating a segment (or at least a significant portion of a segment) to DePaul and their retread head coach. I know LU has staff that is supposed to improve the image of the University among the media. They do a great job when it comes to most things. But when it comes to sports, they fail. LU should hire a dedicated staffer JUST for sports and that person should be hammering the media outlets with pitches. There is absolutely no excuse for this. |

And with that, Silvy gives us a one sentence mention (as he was slighting DePaul) "I'll go root for Loyola in the CBI." Better than nothing, I suppose. |

Now, I suppose LU could hire me to do the job, but we all know that Kelly thinks LU degrees are worthless (and me with my worthless X 2 degrees). Plus, I'd have to give up posting here. And I know you'd all miss me. |

Bad news - we did not get mentioned on 670 the score's scoreboard update. The good news - in these updates they keep mentioning that the new (Kind of) DePaul coach will be in studio today to talk to them. So if anyone wants to listen to that .... |

The major news programs at 10 last night showed brief highlights. Minor victory but they spent more time on DePaul's coach. I hit up the two local programs on ESPN via twitter. We'll see if it works more than a brief mention. Also, in case you didn't see it, Montel's dunk was the #1 play on sportscenter. |
