It looks like this is the JUCO Guard 25 was talking about. He averaged 10.5 points 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals at Southern Idaho his juco this last year.

There is the link to the local news reporting it and Jesse at The Catch and Shoot is posting about it but I can't get the tweet embedding to work.

I've heard Loyola mistakenly called a lot of things--but "University of Chicago- Loyola" is a new one.

And I thought our new commit was from Maryland?

Smith is a Baltimore native. The problem was streak thought our recruit played basketball at a junior college located in the Baltimore area.

Okay then. Seems like the majority of everyone wanted a guard so that's good I guess. I personally was hoping for a big but that's probably why I'm a fan and not a coach. I hope we can get him some valuable experience this year, and I hope even more than Rajala has a big offseason now.

Congrats and welcome to Loyola! He looks like a pretty big, strong kid. Averaging 2 steals in 20 minutes of game time is great. Maybe we can use him to get in Ron Baker's face this year :)

From the two videos I watched he looks much more like a shooting guard or a combo than a pure point guard. He does look strong with thick legs. Doesn't seem overly quick but seems able to finish through contact. Not much elevation on his jump shot. Threw a couple of nice passes in traffic. His numbers are good for the minutes he played.

Here's his most recent video from 2014 when he played for Westwind Prep:

Yes, I construed the comment, "a juco guard from Maryland" to mean origin of school, not origin of residence. Sorry to send the sleuths down some false paths.
I also was told that the emphasis would be on a point guard. Nonetheless, that fills the last spot.
The rationale for the guard was pretty clear. There was a fear that with Doyle's shoulder and Keke's knee, if there were any injuries etc, there could be a significant problem. Also, there was the comment, "guards are critical in the Valley".
Now what we need is to finalize the schedule.
On the positive side, the AD (not the source for this info above) did say, "there will be only one non DI game next year".
On the negative side, the DePaul game is highly doubtful as that was built upon the Moser/Purnell friendship. The paperwork had to wait until DePaul settled on a site for its home games. Now that Purnell is gone, the DePaul game is up in the air.

My take on DePewl--We do NOT need to play any more lesser rated schools than we are---OH ! maybe for attendance purposes--BUT frankly they need us rather than the other way around--Build attendance ?? Play the Mild Kitties from Evanston. BTW , they need us as well, rather than our needing them.
