The answer to the trivia question - although I am sure that JCT was holding back on it.
The answer to how many FG % shooters who shot over 50% all 4 years at LU, is 2. No one even did it for 3 years before the freshmen eligible rule went into effect in 1972.
The 2 players are KERMAN ALI & CHRISTIAN THOMAS.
ALI, who shot only 13 times from 3 point range, had a .556 overall FG% for his career
THOMAS, who was a solid 3 point shooter, had a .554 overall FG%.
In looking at only 2 point shooting, THOMAS was the best, shooting .570. ALI was second to him shooting .562.
No other Ramblers were close to these 2.
The only others finishing over 50% FG shooting were:
WAYNE SAPPLETON .517 (1980 NIT team) LESLIE HUNTER .506 (3 years) (NCAA champ & another NCAA & an NIT)
CHRISTIAN THOMAS not only was LU’s BEST 2 point shooter EVER, but also shot .402 from 3 point range (great for a 2 or 3 who was forced to play power forward for his career against bigger players).
CHRISTIAN THOMAS, who was signed with little fanfare, had some of the best high school scoring & rebounding stats of any of Coach Moser’s signees.
Also un-noticed was the great job he did in setting picks & boxing out for his teammates, in addition to constantly guarding players taller & heavier than he. In spite of this other work, he still averaged throughout his 4 years 14.7 PP40 minutes played.
If he wants, he could certainly help a European or other pro team, at the 2 or the 3 position, or even now, or later, become a solid basketball coach.
It was really great to see him end his LU career with the CIB Championship.
