I wonder what's going to happen across the street from the hotel.

The final, fifth, phase of Loyola's Re-Imagine Campaign, to follow the renovation of the Halas Center, was supposed to be a re-do of Centennial Forum. But Halas was completed over a year ago, and so far nothing has been done to Centennial Forum, which sits empty. Prior Re-Imagine construction projects all were begun within months of the completion of their immediate predecessor.

My theory, totally unsupported by any known facts and pure speculation, is that work on Centennial Forum was put on hold because Loyola has upped the ante, and now plans to completely renovate its face on North Sheridan Road by tearing down barracks-like Campion Hall and replacing it with an architecturally significant classroom building. The Centennial Forum re-do is now part of a bigger project, and designs and construction schedules need to be coordinated.

I also speculate that Loyola is shopping around for a big-bucks donor to help pay for the project. Billionaire Loyola alum Jennifer Pritzker, who is active in Rogers Park real estate, comes to mind.

Again, there is not a shred of evidence or inside information to support any of this speculation. But it makes sense to me that Loyola would like to put a better face on its highly visible north entrance.

That was also the point of the new plaza at the Loyola El stop.

It's actually going to be a Hampton Inn, but I like Hotel Loyola better.

Are you sure that's not the slogan for Hotel Ramblermania?
