Does anyone know what the entrance requirements for the bball team are? Are they the same as the student body? IF so is this part of recruiting difficulties? If so do people think we should take some exceptions?

I don't know if there's a certain mark, but from what I've heard, the ballpark is around a 20-21 on the ACT. I'm 99% sure that's substantially less than what an average student would need to get into LU. According to: http://www.nationalscholastic.org/ncaa_clearing_house, NCAA clearinghouse is a combined score of 68, which means an average of 17. So there's certainly daylight for a school with "lesser academic standards" to accept an athlete who LU would pass on.

EDIT: average ACT score for a freshman @ LUC: 24-29. http://www.luc.edu/undergrad/about/coll ... ities.html

We should have a minimum height requirement....
Or how about a sliding scale, i.e. the taller you are, the easier the requirements...?
Just kidding!

I love the sliding height scale...... I guess what I am trying to get to the bottom of is our recruiting. It seems to me that PM has brought in some good players but never a complete line-up that compliments itself and I want to know why?????

I think there are a lot of reasons Nate. Some of it is supply and demand before you even begin recruiting. There are a lot more really good D1 capable guards and less really good D1 capable forwards. If I remember from that spring/summer where we had Marlon Jones and recruited Keith Thomas (committed to St. John's, didn't qualify), there were around 10 schools in the mix for both of those guys and height was a need for every team. And I think every team knew there were red flags that might disqualify both of those guys, but the need was so great that coaches were willing to ignore it to hope they just squeaked by to qualify.

Then, with your smaller talent pool, you factor in (in any order): academics, coaching, system, competition, location, etc.

Speaking of coaching, we again have 4 former guards on staff after losing Daniyal Robinson this past offseason...

To maintain eligibility a player must maintain a 2.0 gpa.

I am speculating, but my guess is that Pernell Adgei has run afoul of this requirement. After appearing in 6 of the first 8 games Adgei has failed to appear in any game since the loss to Notre Dame on Dec. 13, which coincides with the end of the fall semester.

Moser started Adgei against Creighton at home prior to the ND game, maybe knowing that it would be Adgei's home swan song his freshman year.

If I am correct adgei won't play again this season.

I could be wrong but I didn't see Adgei at the Wichita State game. If he didn't make the trip, then I would bet on it being academics too. It would just be too bizarre for him to go from a start to not playing at all without some issue.

That's the only logical explanation I've been able to come up with, as well. If that's the case, I hope the best for the kid and that he gets it turned around.

I know every program has issues during the season but we do seem a little snakebite. All the way back to whats his name with the broken hand,to the Marlin Jones affair, to Milton last year (what if we had him all year) to the kid that went to Bradley, to all the assistant coaches we have lost. As we try and climb the wall to get on the other side we need everything to go right..and it has not...maybe not more or less than any other team...but it seems the equation needs everything to go correctly for us.
