Good catch on the date, 9599... ;)

Found a nice link with some facts I didn't know, which I'll post when someone gets it.

Isn't it the date of the final game played at Alumni Gym, vs. UIC? I remember it being extremely hot in the gym. What a memorable atmosphere.

Yes. Today is the 20th anniversary of the last REGULAR season men's basketball game in Alumni Gym. There was an exhibition game played in the gym's final year however.

A lengthy blog post with some good info and pics of the gym.

As for the game 20 years ago, I was at a graduate school class and left early to make the second half. I was shocked by how packed the place was... probably much more than the fire code limit.

Happened most of time--I do remember my late Brother in law ( a Chicago Fire Chief) along with his DAD the Chief in Maywood , teasing me when I came to take Longshot Lor to the games about this very thing--Always with the wise crack (an early form of smack --for all you newbies) Cripes !! Everybody is a newbie on this board compared to ol' Brot !!
You guys and Gals KEEP bringing up fond memories for me. YAY !!!

The main reason we had so much success in 85 were the summer workouts in Alumni. Gene would put the word out that the gym was open 3 nights a week and we would get every great player that was in the city. The Bulls were still using Angel Guardian as a workout place, so they would come. Theus, Greenwood, Daily would come along with a lot of local college players of the day, Norman, Blackwell, and even a LaGrange kid named Hornacek. What a great time. Quentin would get a lot of bad press and he certainly had his demons but he was the BEST. He could just score at will and nobody could stop him. He was always willing to help a young guy with his game and was very likable.
