Nice to see the most publicity Loyola ever received is because of abuse allegations.
I want to know who the Genius was to give Truax permission to issue his first public statement, and then permission to issue the second one that gives absolutely no detail about anything. The university couldn't be any more moronic.
Went into three business meetings today and was completely embarrassed to be a LU grad. What a great feeling to have two degrees from a university that has become a laughingstock.

I have been following this story since it came to light. If you are seeing alot of news or coverage I must be missing something.

I watched ABC news account and saw the "brief" interview with the Phoenix reporters. Appeared to me a good example of journalists doing their job. ESPN had a brief story online, but no new information on any charges or allegations.

The University response was also apprpriate. An investigation of a coach and players who have some kind of serious problems. Until the investigation is complete what more do you want or expect the University to say.

If your business contacts make you embarrassed over what I have seen maybe you need better business contacts or at least have them get their act out of junior high gossip mill. As far as I have read this may be alot over nothing. Has anyone alleged some kind of criminal act, some academic or recruiting violation. or just hurt egos and a difference in how to approach inadequate play. I truly am looking for some answers, but nothing YET has caused me to be embarrassed by my school.

There is smoke. Not a good sign. It's an unfortunate situation. I've seen many blurbs on this on local tv, news sites, and ESPN.com. It's making the rounds. We're not the only ones in a bad situation. Louisville bball, Duke women's bball, Wake Forest women's volley to name a couple. No good administration wants this for their athletes if bad things are happening, nor does any school want the bad press. I understand that the University probably can't say much. I wouldn't expect them to but we know they are conducting an investigation. I just hope it is thorough and objective. I'm not so much embarrassed as I am irritated at this situation. What would be embarrassing for me would be if we were to find out that this situation could have been mitigated with better oversight of the women's program.

I must go with 86 on this matter--I also have taken a lot of needling from my Lunch Pals--two Notre Dame grads--one Akron U grad--one St Lois U grad and one graduated from Manhattan.
LUC has turned this over to a Committee ?? They, I have found over the years that Committees swwep the carpet--they do NOT gey into rug cuttim', if you know what I mean. The AD and the Acting Pres are the ones to handle this in my opinion, .

This is a rotten mess. I do believe it could be hurting our Men's Hoops recruiting

The Swopes story even made the New York Times on Sunday. First time I can recall any mention of LUC there.

After reading the letter from Cate Soane to the NCAA I was really alarmed. You always hope that the students attending and playing are being looked out for. THe comments about athletic support and medical support go beyond Coach Swoopes and are an indictment of the Athletic Department at that time. I had heard that Grace Calhoun was ready to be fired when she resigned and left for Penn. She may have been getting out ahead of the posse. But this is now the kind of thing that can make any student thinking about coming to LU for athletics to think twice. While Steve Watson may not be responsible for some of this it should have been caught through the overview of the program. At this point I think we have reason to question if the current Athletic Department is doing a decent job. Is there evidence that academic support and medical support has been cleaned up. IT does not make sense that there would just be issues with in those two areas for the womens basketball team unless Coach Swoopes was also exerting influence over those departments.
So to me this is now a two pronged issue 1. Coach Swoopes and 2. Supervision of programs and support with in the Athletic Department.

Should have kept Hitch as trainer and time to bring back Mary Hawkins (recently left JOhn Logan CC) as women's coach

None of this would have happened if Hitch still had some authority. Maybe my time line is messed up but it should have been Malisch and Kelly who would have responded to the NCAA
