I remember Cornette from my early days on Ramblermania when he was Director of Basketball Operations at Butler following his playing career.

Sad, following so soon after Andrew Smith's death.

That's a really shocking story. Cornette was a mainstay on the Butler teams that really solidified the rivalry between Loyola and Butler. He was at Butler from 1999-2003, when Loyola went 8-2 against Butler-- but in his last three games against Loyola, the Ramblers won two and lost the other at Hinkle in OT. It was the repeated drubbings during the early years of that era, and the interaction on Ramblermania between Loyola and Butler fans, that made the rivalry intense.

I remember hearing Cornette doing color commentary on ESPN games. Interesting that he ended up in Chicago.

Cornette's New York Times obituary provides a better overview of his career.
