Damn. Watching it, I thought it was obvious what happened, but I was holding out hope.

Is he eligible for a medical hardship waiver? Hate to see him lose a year of eligibility.

Terrible news. I hope the surgery and rehab go well and he gets back to 100%! He showed great promise in his short time with the team. I wonder if it is the same leg that he had surgery on before.

He definitely qualifies for a medical redshirt year if he doesn't come back this season.

So sad for him and the team.

Very sad to see this happen.

To answer you question. He should be eligible no problem. Landry Shamet medical redshirted last year after playing 3 games. I think the rule is less than 30% of the teams games played and can't return for the remainder of the year.

I just pray that this is not a repeat of what happened with Tanner Williams, another small town Illinois high school star whose promising college career with the Ramblers was cut short by chronic knee problems.

Let's not start thinking that way...

He meets the qualifications to get the year back. The only thing preventing him from getting it would be the NCAA or MVC not approving it. Since he isn't looking for a 6th year, it should be easier to get approval. The only thing that could be a roadblock would be either Matt slacking off rehab (it could come off as him trying to stretch injury time to get the year back. From what I've seen and heard about him, this shouldn't be an issue.) or Loyola not getting the paperwork in properly or on time. I would hope the last one isn't an issue.

Well all of our newcomers next year definitely have Freshmen/Newcomer team potential potential. Right? Right???

*tries not to cry*

Best of luck to Matt in rehab! Look forward to seeing him on the sidelines.

Hopefully Cam Satterwhite can step up and play meaningful minutes.
