He hasn't made an appearance on the board since Oct. 27 and I didn't see him in his usual seat at the Alcorn State or Indiana Northwest games.

LU86 has also been a no-show for quite some time.

Both of their disappearances occured shortly after the Tip Off Luncheon. I wonder if there is any connection?

I hope both are doing well and will rejoin the flock soon. They are very valuable contributors to Ramblermania and the basketball program.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally switch channels and mistake Streak for the Skipper on Gilligan's Island?

I've done that myself.

And I could swear I saw GoRamblers as the "Before" in a Hair Club Unlimited commercial on WCIU Channel 26 last week.

Hey, a guy has to make a living some how. And at least it paid well!

Well, I am very embarrassed by the attention caused by my absence and so grateful to have so many great friends. Thank you for your kind words.

My absence was actually caused by three things:

1. an unusual opportunity presented itself with the Air Force but a part of the condition of the opportunity was the inability to bring to the assignment any and all forms of electronic communication. Now if you put in a ten hour day and then access your cell phone after a 12 hour black out, you really do not have a lot of extra time as there is much to catch up to.
2. I had a lot of travel and went through many time zones that produced a lot of fatigue and I needed to catch up on my sleep. While I have flown over two million miles in my career, the older I get the harder it is to recover.
3. The Cubs were a real distraction. While I was able to attend some of the World Series, I also spent some of the time in of all places Ohio and was really absorbed in the watching of those late games of game five, six and seven. Emotionally exhausting! But the Indian fans I had to interface with almost every day were of the highest character and quality. One of them was a former pilot on an F111.
Very humbling to hear about all the things he did which make what I do very trivial and inconsequential. I was in awe of how he described having to eject from his F111 over Turkey. He was a great Indian fan but a real gentleman as we watched that late extra inning game seven at the hotel bar. Very classy Indian fans.

Now all of that is passed and basketball is back. My assignment is ended and I departed Kirtland Air Force base in Albuquerque Wednesday night, flew to Denver and then to Chicago and then boarded an early plane to San Juan Puerto Rico Thursday morning and then to St. Thomas to see, yes, Paradise Jam.
All in a twenty hour time frame.

So today was my first day to sleep in and then my wife and I attended that first game with a nice Loyola contingent. I was very surprised by the small quaint but modern gym the Paradise Jam is conducted in. Very nice people run the tournament and most of them are volunteers doing it for the love.
Except for the final score, it was a fantastic experience and my wife and I look forward to the game tomorrow against Oral Roberts.
Some of the OR players sat in the stands next to the Loyola contingent and I had some very nice conversations.

Finally let me say, there are so many intelligent posters on this board who are so knowledgeable about the game that I really enjoy reading their posts. What I have occasionally to offer pales in comparison to their insights and wisdom. Swella and JCT are so intelligent and who can top Brot's lifetime stories. Brot always amazes me as to his view about life and his handling of the ultimate tragedy the loss of a child. Brot's class really helped me to deal with the early death of my sister to cancer.

While it is early in the season, my single conclusion even this early is that this is a very talented but young team. I expect that there will be a learning curve but that this team will come together and will do well. The talent level is there and there is real depth as well. It will be hard to find minutes for so many players. I had an opportunity to talk to Mr and Mrs. Chastain today and also to Mr and Mrs Bauman and Mr and Mrs. Richardson who are so positive about what Loyola has to offer. I noticed today that Loyola and Harvard were tied for first in the entire NCAA over athletic achievement. This is a testimony to Steve Watson AD and Coach Moser. I had an opportunity to have breakfast with Coach Moser and as enthusiastic as he is about this team he is so excited about next year with the Krautwig and Negron signings. So even better days are around the corner. Coach Moser is a great role model for young men and for the development of coaches. He does not get enough credit for his efforts and achievement in spite of a lot of constraints.
Coach indicated that one thing we really can do to support him and the team is to get other people to attend a game and put more fannies in the seats. So why not buy a pair to tickets to a game and bring two people to one game, just one.
There are exciting things on the horizon with a probable pre season tourney next year in Georgia.
Steve Watson has done a great job of steadying the athletic department and getting it on track. While not all on Steve's watch look at the exciting tournaments and road games we have had in the last four/five years. Florida, New Orleans, New York, Alaska and now the Virgin Islands. Our schedule is getting better and better and the Missouri Valley is a significant upgrade as well.

So thanks again to all the fine posters on this board and see all of you soon at the next home game against Norfolk. Ramblermania is a great link to keep up on the Loyola basketball community and makes late nights and long trips much easier to get through.
