signed with Purdue according to VC.....looks like several other MV teams were interested. Seems he hopped on Purdue when one of the other shooting guards they were recruiting committed to Louisville. Verbal Commits also has Loyola down for 3 offers but no spots??????? |

Good catch Nate. I'd been following Sasha's recruitment since we offered him By all indications he was a high major player just waiting for an offer and eventually he got one and immediately jumped on it. Kind of a bummer as he would have been a huge 3 point threat for our team and a real steal overall. We were in his top 4 choices before Purdue offered. In regards to having no spots, some fans (including myself) have believed that Maurice Kirby may graduate after this year given that he red-shirted as a freshmen at Virginia Tech; so he could be a senior academically. Or perhaps it's offers in case of potential transfers (though to be honest at this point i think we have a pretty good chance at everyone staying). I previously assumed we were going to offer West Chicago's Tai Bibb's who's having a great season but after watching him twice there hasn't been an offer so maybe we're standing pat/looking at JUCO's. |

Some concern that other than Krutwig....we only seem to be looking at one big for next year and the following. At this point I just do not think it is a priority for Porter. I think he just values ball handling, defense, foot speed,,,maybe length , more. My best guess. |

Christian Negron who's also coming next year is a post player as well. A bit undersized, but I've seen him at games and he's built very wide and strong, his body is kind of a hybrid between Aundre and Montel James. He's a high motor kid who will play bigger on the boards, especially in the valley where he should be able to thrive. Furthermore I wouldn't expect Porter to target many more high school post players until those two are juniors. If i had to guess he will go to JUCO to add any additional size for the 18-19 season given the relative success hes' had doing so (in the last 3 years i believe all our big men have come from JUCO with the exception of Julius and Pernell who went to a prep school). JUCO recruiting is way more difficult to follow in my opinion, Aundre didn't even have a verbalcommits page but held several offers (Abilene Christian, UTA, Cleveland State, Western Illinois)...so i'm sure they're doing our diligence we just might not be able to see it! The one player with size we have offered for the 18-19 class is 6-8 Gavin Pinkley, who at this place is more like a tall wing, but still growing in his game and may become more of a post threat soon. Overall I'd anticipate 2 JUCO bigs and 3 guards and a wing type for the next big recruiting class. A player i'd look for to be a steal out of that class is Javon Freeman out of Whitney Young. He transferred there this season and has been putting up nice numbers, we were his first offer and he has the makings of a CPS stud going into his senior year next season. |
