I'm guessing that Valpo is the front runner.

OK !! I have changed my mind---WE add three to make twelve---VALPO, Belmont and one of the three Kentuckys ( Eastern Western or Northern) Of those three I would grab Western in a hurry !!

If adding three, mostly likely the spread would be 2 publics and 1 private to keep happiness in the league. I'd guess NDSU and SDSU and Valpo (though I'd prefer Belmont)

Go both Dakotas are Football schools especially NDSU --They hardly ever lose at their level. Valley maybe would be more enhanced with Belmont and two others Might work with Valpo Belmont and say ORAL or W KY

I think if they go with 12, they'll probably think of location more, and add someone closer to Missouri St. UMKC is probably the most likely for that, unless it becomes Oral Roberts.

They are football schools, yes, and their football teams play in the Missouri Valley Conference for football, which is why their names are always brought up when talking about expansion.

Plus, the beauty of FCS football is that you don't have to have your football and basketball be in the same conference.

Again, if the MVC is adding 3 schools, 2 are going to be public schools. The public schools in the league now (ISUr/b, UNI, SIU, MSU) don't want this to shift to a private school conference.

Also, it's pretty much consensus...no one wants Oral Bob.

The available options seem to be obvious (Valpo, Belmont, Dakotas, etc. Probably not UMKC, especially now that WSU is gone).

I'd like to add Denver into consideration. They're currently in the Summit, where they had a 16-14 record. But they have a budget that would rank 1st in an MVC without Wichita State, just a few thousand ahead of Bradley. They're in a good market, they have VERY good non-revenue sports (a ranked men's soccer team, very good women's soccer, very good women's volleyball), and I believe they have a great upside. I believe they would help strengthen the rivalry with the Mountain West Conference. Back when we came into the MVC, they took themselves out of the running to replace Creighton because they had just moved to the Summit and said they were happy with that affiliation. But that was four years ago.... perhaps things have changed.

Either way, with anyone who comes in, the league is going to have to work together to IMPROVE NON-CON SCHEDULING and take care of business in the non-conference season to maintain its place ahead of challengers like the West Coast, Colonial, Mountain West, Sun Belt and MAC. The best way to do that is to minimize the teams under 200. With ISU and WSU losing early in the postseason and no other teams playing in C-tournaments, the Colonial eclipsed the MVC at the end of the season. The CAA had 7 of 10 teams with RPIs better than 200 and no teams worse than 300, while the MVC had only six better than 200 and one team worse than 300.
