New transfer, Aher Uguak from New Mexico. 6'7 Wing with a 6'11 wingspan, has to sit one year before 3 years of eligibility remaining. Supposed to be super athletic, but didn't see much playing time as a freshman. From Canada, cousin of Luol Deng. Averaged something like 27, 11, 6 in highschool.

This is a really nice pick up in my opinion. He's 6'7'' but can handle like a guard and is a HYPER athlete (ideal 4 for Moser). Didn't start playing basketball until later in life (was originally a football player). He was well liked from what i could see at UNM and flashed occasionally, but probably should have redshirted as a freshmen. Transferring with several Lobos due to a coaching change.

His high school coach said this when he signed to UNM: "I think if he chose to go to a post-grad or a prep school, he’d end up being a high major recruit (in the class of 2017), so I think UNM is doing the right thing getting him now (https://www.abqjournal.com/663491/lobos ... rward.html)." I know that's his high school coach, but given his numbers i don't think it's a stretch. A full offseason to work on his game without the pressure of having to play and he could be a real steal.

The same recruiting site from above ranked him 6th in the country for 2016 prospects

Unless Uguak does what Chastain did at ISU and agrees to be a non-scholarship walk-on during his transfer redshirt year, this puts us one over the scholly limit for 2017-2018.

Uguak reminds me a lot of Pernell Adgei. Same height, same build, facially similar, more athletic than skilled.

I hope it turns out better this time.

I would bet this means Tyson is off the team, or at least off scholarship. Unless there's some transfer we don't know about but seems doubtful

I think this confirms earlier posts stating Tyson will be out with a medical waiver.

Also Swella i also thought of Pernell, but i think Uguak is further along than Pernell was after one year. He looks to have some driving ability and a developing shot (still needs this redshirt year though, i agree he's still raw).

I skimmed the UNM board regarding his transfer. Some fans were very high on him making a jump next year, others thought he should have redshirted as a freshmen, but most seemed to agree he would be a loss on the defensive end as he was high effort and fairly skilled for a freshmen. Having a solid 6'7" defender who can guard multiple positions is a great get even if his offensive game takes some time.

Aher made the 22 man training camp roster for the Canadian U19 National Team, but failed to survive the final cut for the 12 man squad competing in the FIBA tournament this summer.
