Nice section about Donte Ingram. I've been thinking about how valuable he's been to the team, and how he's one of a handful of players who have always considered Loyola to be one of their top choices as a school and as a basketball program. I mean, it seems like he WANTED to come to Loyola as a primary GOAL, not just as the best offer he got, a superior academic choice, or as a local option.
Here's an article from March 2013, about problems he had when transferring to Simeon, and how he had progressed to be a key bench player on a team that was winning the state championship. It mentions his tie to Loyola through his family.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013 ... s-class-4aAnd here's the release from when he signed with Loyola..... in the Early Signing Period.... even though he was becoming a starter on a defending state champion team and might have been able to get better offers in Spring....
http://www.loyolaramblers.com/news/2013 ... ath=mbball Right from the get-go, he was part of the CBI championship team in his freshman year. He's improved steadily every year through college to the point where he was a pre-season first team pick this year, and he's been playing the 3 and 4 his whole career when he's probably more suited to the 2 in college. He's got 569 career rebounds after last night,
ranking 83rd in career rebounds since 1985 in the MVC. He's ranks
tied for 95th with NBA player Fred VanVleet and just ahead of NBA player Milton Doyle in MVC career threes since 1985, and he's got a chance to reach 1200 points in his career if the Ramblers go deep in postseason.
A really great kid, too. A perfect mix of a nice guy and a bad-ass competitor.
