I just noticed that the tally for "Views" for Ramblermania posts seems to have skyrocketed in the last week.

Take a look at this cached version of Ramblermania's Men's Basketball Page from August 20th:

Now compare it to the version from August 27th, when I made this post:

The "Sean O'Mara" thread went from 900+ views to over 2300 views in a week. The other threads all experienced similar proportional gains. That is phenomenal, inexplicable, and, to me, highly suspicious.

What is going on?

Reading up on CLICK FRAUD, TROJAN CODE, ZOMBIE COMPUTERS, REVERSE SPIDERS, INFLATION ATTACKS, CACHE POISONING and a host of other stuff I didn't know existed.

This is going to keep me busy for a long time!

Go is right. The only logical explanation is Aliens. They've traveled billions of miles to participate on the Rambler message board.

Either that or people from the MVCfans board, WSU board or other potential O'Mara suitors did a google search.

Okay, Pam, I concede there might be a certain level of general interest in O'Mara's recruitment, but how do you explain that the thread "Worst State For Retirees" in the Off Topic Forum now has over 600 views, when last week it had only a handful?

Across the board, every thread has increased its views by a huge percentage, often by a factor of 2 or more. And this includes the older threads where there had been no new posts for a long time.

This activity is not consistent with normal message board behavior.

In looking at the site statistics, a crawler called "webmeup" has been responsible for about 70% of the traffic over the past few days. Here is their press release:

Apparently, they have a crawler looking for links to their clients and other sites.

I wasn't anticipating it would be a Russian conspiracy!

This outfit is from Belorussia; judging from my experience with Russian/Ukranian porn sites, I wouldn't be surprised if they are up to no good.

Is there any way you can keep them from poking around Ramblermania? (Even though I kinda liked the inflated view numbers)
