Anyone know why all the bracket experts have the 4/5/12/13 seeds locked in to play in either Boise or San Diego? Is that how it works every year? Or could it end up changing on Selection Sunday?

I don't understand that, either. Maybe it's been that way for the past 33 years and I never cared?

It can change, but I think it's unlikely. The committee can change the sites however they seem fit, but will always try to put the higher seeds closer to home (i.e. Villanova in Pittsburgh, Virginia in Charlotte, Kansas in Wichita) That pulls in the other seeds that they'd face in the second round. They'll move down the seeds, making the 5/12 and 4/13 games the last to get the site. Since Boise and San Diego are pretty far from the top teams this year, that's where it looks like the 5/12 and 4/13 games will be.

Here's a link that goes into detail about the entire selection and seeding process that you can read if you want: https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2017-03-12/march-madness-bracket-how-68-teams-are-selected-division-i

San Diego would be very easy to get to from Chicago. Reasonably priced flight and hotels. Boise on the other hand would be very expensive to get to. United goes non stop but on an express jet. The committee does not assign teams to an arena if they played there twice during the regular season. Loyola has played at Boise; but only once.

SB Nation has us playing none other than Wichita State! https://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2018/2/13/17004810/bracketology-2018-college-basketball-rpi-quality-wins-analytics-gonzaga-oklahoma-wichita-state

Although not my favorite match-up so far, the media would probably love it. They've got an easy story line for a 12/5 game.

That SB Nation article Tank listed had this little nugget:

Quote:
Poor non-conference scheduling can be overcome at the top of the bracket (hi, Texas Tech and Michigan State) but will probably be a problem for teams close to the cut line (see Kansas State, N.C. State and Mississippi State, all of whom find themselves on the outside looking in right now).

So if NC State had stayed on our schedule, whoever won would probably be looking at an at large, and whoever lost would at least have a higher non-con SOS.

NC State should be put on full blast again for backing out of their agreement to play us. ESPECIALLY if we’re both bubble teams. If that happens, justice would be putting us one notch higher than them. Decisions like that should have consequences.

It's as simple as Brot says... We just have to win the first 3 games in March! It's as simple as that! Instead of bitching and complaining about something that we have absolutely no power over...lets just control and dominate what we do have control over... the FIRST THREE GAMES IN MARCH!!!

God bless and GO RAMBLERS!!!!
