What is the magic number for Loyola to clinch the Valley regular season and lock up at least an NIT automatic bid?

The magic number is calculated as G + 1 − WA − LB, where

G is the total number of games in the season
WA is the number of wins that Team A has in the season
LB is the number of losses that Team B has in the season

9

8 games left. Finish 7-1 and our league total is 15-3. Right now the closest people are 6-4. And the way things have been looking lately, 7-1 down this stretch is completely attainable.

Although, in the grand scheme, I truly think the magic number is 9. If we win out in conference, we will be on a 15 game winning streak, and if we win our first game of arch madness, we will be at a 16 game winning streak. Even if we lost in the semis we would be 27-5. I gotta believe that would get us an at large bid.

JUST KEEP WINNING

Perhaps. I don't see us getting an at large without making the championship at Arch Madness. Even then it's tough. Illinois State was 27-5 (17-1) last year and they were left out. You could argue that our OOC resume this year is better than theirs last year, but it's close. And, I think one reason they were left out is that Wichita State blew them out by 40 in Wichita, then again by 20 in St. Louis.

28-7 did not get the Red Birds an NCAA at large bid last year in a conference that included Wichita State. I think the MVC is a one bid league and a Arch Madness Championship is necessary to make the NCAA. A home game in the NIT is a strong possibility if the Ramblers do not win in St. Louis.

I agree that the at-large bid is probably a less than 1% probability. The Milwaukee loss stings and they just isn't enough there to convince the committee otherwise, in my opinion.

Although I'd rather win out, and guarantee the regular season championship that way, we might be able to squeak out the championship with a tie for 1st. Right now we've got the best RPI, so if that holds and we don't get tied with a Missouri St or Indiana St team that went 2-0 against us, we'd win the conference. But I'd rather just win out, and not have to worry about tiebreakers.
