The student newspaper is running an online poll asking questions about the proposed athletic facility. I wonder how the basketball season has affected student opinion. I feel that this poll will still produce negative results for athletics. http://loyolaphoenix.com/wpgforms/loyola-phoenix-athletics-survey/

Yeah, this won't end well. Also pretty sure that tuition income doesn't even cover the school's operating expenses, so saying that tuition dollars are being used for a capital investment in athletics or anything else is disingenuous at best. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.

When Northwestern built their incredibly large new facility on the Lake,,,,they made sure that every step of the way regular students would be able to use the facility as well as letting them know the source of money was mainly donations. ....Might not be a bad idea to have a student group represented on a committee to see how students could use and or benefit from our new facility. Also if most of the funds were from donations ,,,needs to be presented that way. One way or another LU students are aware of the financial costs and this needs to be an on going open conversation with the student body. Every attempt needs to be made for our athletes to not be seen as an elite group above and away from the rest of the student body. For Loyola students who choose not to attend the University of Alabama or some other major athletic factory because there first interest is academics LU will need to continue to justify the expenses of the Athletic Department. I know this makes it tougher for all us Alumni who now want to sit back , wear our hoodies,,,,,and cheer for the Ramblers.....but for me it is why I am so proud to be an LU alum is that I think we are above the hypocrisy of big time college athletics.....comes with a price.
LU students are sharp, aware and rightfully questioning.

Loyola announces that Al Norville has made a gift to support building the facility. It'll be named in honor of his late wife, Alfie. http://loyolaramblers.com/news/2018/2/5/general-loyola-receives-cornerstone-gift-to-build-athletics-practice-facility.aspx

Doesn't mention how much or what percent it'll cover, but I wonder how student opinion would change knowing this info as opposed to hinting that most if not all of it was coming from tuition like the survey sort of suggested.

Amazingly good news!!! This has to clarify that the higher ups really are on board...doesn't it? Would imagine this has to be another big win for the recruiting trail!

The Phoenix puts the price tag at $18.5 million. Wow.

Location: Livin in the middle, between the two extremes
I’m guessing part of that covers the fees to do all the studies and hoop-jumping necessary to get approval by the city and lakeshore preservation groups. That’s one really tough thing about “keeping up with the college Jones’”, it’s a lot more expensive to add facilities in Rogers Park than it is in a typical college town.
