As if our non conference schedule wasn't already weak...Rockhurst? Come on.

At least it doesn't count in the RPI (I think).

Rockhurst ?? I wager PM could not get a Di 1 school to fill out-- If so, that is why it took so long to even post the schedule--WHICH is not half bad in comparison to some of our partners' .

I think it also doesn't count against SOS. If so, the league would probably prefer Rockhurst to someone like Chicago State. But I thought the MVC didn't allow games against non-D1 schools. Regardless, it really doesn't look good and I am surprised that this was allowed to happen. I'll be there under protest.

On the whole, I am disappointed with this schedule. I'm going to grin and bear it. I know we have to finish up a bunch of contracts.

Still, I am disappointed. I hope that next year is a better schedule.

I may be wrong, but I think by virtue of participating in the MTE (the Portland tournament) we get to add a non-D1 game to the schedule. It does NOT count on the RPI, and according to the wording of the second MVC tiebreaker, it won't count against our SOS. Many other MVC teams are playing non-D1 schools: Drake is playing Iowa Wesleyan; Evansville is playing Martin Methodist; Missouri State is playing Cameron; etc.

However, the non-con schedule does look really weak from an RPI standpoint. A lot of it is going to be meeting obligations we entered into before joining the conference, so there's not much we can do about it. A couple of positives-- it's hard to imagine Mississippi State being a 300+ RPI team for a second year in a row, and several other schools (Northern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Fordham, and Milwaukee ) are likely to be a bit better, because there's nowhere to go but up.

By being in an MTE, you get to schedule one or two more games than not being in one. I don't remember off the top of my head. A DII school does not count against your RPI so it's better than taking on a really bad DI school. And in some cases, more competitive. WSU plays a KS DII (Emporia State) to open the season because we couldn't find someone willing to play us. It's not unusual for us to have one of those games on the schedule. A couple years ago we even had to play local DII Newman over Christmas to fill out the schedule.

The most important thing about scheduling in the MVC is to avoid 300+ RPI teams and try and limit the 200+ teams. NonCon SOS is a big deal in the conference as it's how we decide tie breakers come tournament time.
