A lot of good posts here. Just wanted to thank Pat for everything he's done at Loyola, and like swella said, I do hope he remains involved. (Wasn't there a time several years ago when Pat was employed elsewhere but was still doing PA?) Like others, I am disappointed to hear that it was not amicable.

Pat was one of the basketball managers in the mid-late 80s, under Gene Sullivan. He was working in finance on LaSalle Street through most of the 90s, and was also the PA voice through this period. I think he decided that the stress level and work hours in trading were unpalatable, so he made a career change into education in the late 90s/early 2000s. He got a Master's in the education area at Northeastern, and worked in the northern suburbs at a school district before taking a job doing marketing and advertising at Loyola. So he's done PA (I think continuously) since the late 1980s-- 30 years.

I had the pleasure of working with Pat at the scorer's table for nearly ten years. I always found him to be very professional, enthusiastic and helpful. It would be very sad to see his long and varied career at Loyola ended without some recognition of his dedication to the university.

This is complete bullshit.
no severance
told to find a job over his last 90 days
switched his job description and responsibilities continuously

Pat deserved better. He is one of us. I will feel no sympathy for Kelly and Watson when they are eventually shown the door with everyone else they hired. It’s just a matter of time. After 6 coaches, 6 AD’s and 4 Presidents that I have outlasted, its a certainty.

The university should have stepped up and found a role somewhere for him.

Judging by his appearance, Kelly is already halfway out the door--about 150 pounds of him have left the building, leaving a skeletal simulacrum behind.
At least all that missing Kelly fat was put to good use. I heard it was added to the recycled cooking oil that power Loyola buses.

Sounds like someone made a political move and disguised it as eliminating the position.

Just so you know, the change in Kelly was motivated by some of the things that were said on this board. He took the insults to heart.

So what you're saying is I literally saved Kelly's life?!? Talk about a Public Shaming Campaign backfiring!

I guess it's time to start posting about Kelly's opioid addiction. ;) (The Smiley is for Sheldon/NatetheSkate, indicating SARCASM).

I understand Pat was with the athletic department for a long time, and presumably made significant contributions, but in my four years I couldn't figure out what he did other than his PA work during basketball games.

I’m not sure what’s pissed me off more: the way this apparently all went down, or that previous post by Mr 2 post Ramblin’Man. Pat’s a good man. Who has put more time into this program to try to make it better, in the worst of years over the last three decades, than almost anyone. This is likely a bad board to try and plant some flag to the contrary.

Edit: Especially from some poster whose only previous interaction with this board came 4 years ago posing as a Creighton-first person. Now posting this drive-by cheap-shot? As someone who also did grad school elsewhere: bite me.

Ramblin Man, I am not surprised that you didn't know what he did, since he never tooted his own horn.
