I'm becoming more and more convinced that swellafelon is simply the concoction of a mad computer scientist.

Consider the evidence:

- It has been known to use inflammatory rhetoric in attempt to divide Ramblermaniacs and sow discord. Generally swellafelon's attacks are aimed at "establishment" figures. It appears to be programmed to periodically search the staff directory page at loyolaramblers.com, choose a target, and then use rudimentary Internet searches to dig up dirt, which it then churns into posts here at Ramblermania.

Previous targets have included Grace Calhoun, Jason Calhoun, Steve Watson, Rob Kelly, and Tom Kelly. The latest attacks on Bill Behrns are notable given that swellafelon previously used praise of Behrns to dig at Grace Calhoun.

- It has a notable fixation on bots and other strange Internet phenomena. My theory is that this thread from 2013 should have been our first indication that swellafelon was becoming self-aware.

- Its known alias, "Pope Jump Ball II" ceased posting in March 2017, just before Robert Mueller was appointed to serve as Special Counsel investigating, in part, the use of spam bots to influence public opinion.

- It sometimes posts in foreign languages, possibly exposing bugs in the code.

This is just a theory, but I am sticking to it until swellafelon returns my email.

Almost 30 years ago, in my freshman year at Loyola, I wrote a paper about artificial intelligence and neural networks for a writing class. I wrote it on my Commodore SX-64 (an early version of a portable/laptop) and printed it out on an Epson dot matrix printer.

And now, here we are.... living in a world where it's impossible to tell the difference between real or robot smart-asses.

Busted.

More later.

P.S. I am so proud of my protege ahunte! I took him under my wing and now look at him. A fully- formed flamethrower who can take over for me on Ramblermania when my time comes.

Go forth and troll, my son.

I've had a bunch of aliases on Ramblermania over the years, but I think Pope Jump Ball II is still my favorite.

I'm thinking of maybe adopting a new alias soon, one that would be devoted entirely to the endlessly fascinating topic of bots. I have two possible screen names in mind: Grandpa Earl, or bot4britu.

Nice! But I prefer "palpable presence" to "rising star".

I am reconsidering my stance after reading swella's frankly shocking display of humanity in the Bill Behrns thread.

I upgraded to Adobe's EMPATHY EMULATOR PROFESSIONAL. I think it's worth the premium price. Too often the basic version would generate responses that were supposed to sound empathetic, but came across as sarcastic or downright mean.

I haven't tried it on any dating sites yet but am looking forward to it. ("Of course I'm a cat person! Who couldn't adore those furry little lovebugs.")
