If UMass leaves the A10 I see one of two things.

1. Others shift in the A10. SLU and/or Dayton join the Valley and it becomes a great league.
2. The Valley takes Murray State instead. Dayton and/or SLU do not join.

If #2 happens I think Loyola should try and take the potential UMass spot in the A10. Yes, leave the Valley if they don't get SLU or Dayton. Loyola should have left the MCC back in the 80's. Don't make the same mistake again.

Perfect world is the Valley with SLU and/or Dayton. Second best is the A10. A Valley with Murray St. is last.

I guess I'm missing something.

1. What makes you think UMass might leave the A10?

2. What makes you think SLU or Dayton might leave the A10 for the MVC instead of the Big East?

3. What makes you think the A10 is better than the MVC?

I spent a couple minutes googling and didn't find any rumors suggesting UMass was contemplating a move. Where would they go?

I haven't heard anything about UMass looking to leave the A-10. Do you have a link?

I would love to get St. Louis and Dayton into the Valley. I think that would make the Valley better than the A-10. Murray State is a pretty good program, too, and if St. Louis decided to bail on the A-10 for the Valley and come along with Murray State, that would be a plus for the league.

The thing that concerns me is getting some of the Valley teams to bump up their budgets. Indiana State spends less than $2,000,000 per year. Illinois State is around $2.3 million. The average in the MVC is around $2.8 million, the average in the A-10 is around $4.5 mil. Dayton and St. Louis both spend about $5.5 mil on men's hoops. Porter's raise put us over $3 million.

The only destination for UMass that makes any sense is the American Conference, but I don't see that happening. Maybe for football only, but not all sports.

I read it on mvcfans.com under the expansion thread. It just got me thinking. I always wanted the A10.

Apparently this Tweet is the entire "factual" foundation for 9599's rampant speculation:

Sheesh, the article hasn't even been written yet, so nobody know for sure what the commish actually said. Plus the writer is some schlub from a small town newspaper in Berkshire Mass. So why would he be given such a potentially big scoop?

Very slender reed to support so much weight.

I did not see that. I read a post on mvcfans.com. It just sparked my interest and wondered what others thought about SLU/Dayton to the Valley or Loyola to the A10. The conference reallingment across the country is not done yet.

The post on the MVC message board you're referring to contained the same link I posted above. That's where I found it.
