The fact that some here are questioning this offense is laughable (to be nice). The mismatches and spacing created by using different size matchups spurred that run. And call Donte a forward if you want, but for the most part he played a guard role in the offense, just like he’s doing now in the G League. There were no true “forwards” that people traditionally think of from 20 years ago. Offenses are not the same as they were back then, both NBA and college now. Two big differences have resulted in “struggles” this year so far: inexperience and poor shooting. A lot of wide open shots created....by the offense. Last year we were one of the best shooting teams in the Nation, with one of the most efficient offenses. If we start hitting shots like we’re capable of doing, both of those will be true again. |

There are more videos and discussion about Loyola's plays, both offense and defense, on youtube and elsewhere. The system has been studied and picked apart for eight months since the NCAA tournament. Especially mid-major programs have been looking at it because Loyola was able to do it with players that are available to mid-major teams. The same thing happened a lot to Butler after their 2010 and 2011 runs, but video wasn't as common or good 8 years ago. |
