Hate to think this way, but who are we calling if Porter leaves us? My top 3:

1. Luke Yaklich (familiarity with the conference, defensive wizard(
2. Bryce Drew (has had previous big time success at a mid-major program)
3. Jon Scheyer (Chicagoland guy who has been learning the craft under one of the all-time great coaches)

Yaklich would be a home run hire in my book. Great defensive coach, with local and valley ties.

Per Twitter, Porter will be having dinner with "higher ups" from St. John's tonight.

This is sounding pretty serious.

25’s point about the stability of the SJU job is what I was thinking as well. Chris Mullin is one of the biggest names in SJU history, and he only lasted 4 years. Would be a curious decision, but the devil is in the details of what they would offer $$ wise.

Got a little sad reading streak's post. Damnit.

If this goes through, is swellafelon to blame? Every school he reported on Porter didn’t go to and the one school he’s silent on takes Porter.

I think Porter potentially taking the SJU job comes down to a couple things. It comes down to whether Porter is true to his word about caring about his kids finishing school in Chicago and whether he doesn't want to run away from happiness. Or is money what he cares about. I think we should know the answer to that question soon enough. SJU is not one of those once in a lifetime - "can't miss" opportunities.

Just to add to my earlier post and streak’s point: since Lou Carnesecca left in 1992, SJU has had 8 coaches in 27 years. If you’re looking for stability and a place patient enough to allow you to build, that isn’t a job that screams either.
