It is always fun to watch Gonzaga in the NCAA tourney.
A part of their success is due to the fact that:
1. they remain in the same conference and do not overreach or look for greener pastures.
2. their coach Mark Few is content to stay at Gonzaga and build the program into a perennial national contender.
In twenty years Few has managed to build the program from nothing to a nationally recognized program
that is successful both on and off the court.
Loyola with its Final Four run a year ago would be wise to follow this model.

+1

Their arena isn’t all that big either.

Reminder.... They have a budget of $7 million or so. Part of that money is spent on scheduling and a lot is assistants. That's two areas we haven't spent money on as a program. We need to start doing so if we want to maintain where we are, let alone improve.

Do not forget ....to spend money...ya gotta have money.........You can see the improved schedules for our non-basketball sports this year....In previous Final 4 years...our schedules and really been regulated to lower level tournaments and most were held in the Midwest. It is obvious that we spread some of the financial success on to the other programs...

My understanding of what Gonzaga did early on was to maximize revenues from merchandise, marketing, etc. and then once Monsen got things rolling, they focused those dollars on the schedule, arena, and coaching staff.
