Sorry to hear if it is true. I guess that the coach wants to stock up on more guards for his 4 guard midget ball set.

Sucks that he's going; but I'm sure he'll find success somewhere; just too talented.

He was buried behind a Player of the year candidate and someone with a pretty similar skill set just 4 inches taller. Best of luck!

Sad to hear, but understandable in light of the roster development. I really pulled for this kid. Played hard, showed great potential, ran the floor, never did I see him complain about anything...... Tough loss for me to understand, as I always wished we played two "bigs" on the floor once in awhile. Looks like the 4 guard system wins the day over this player's potential. Can only wish him well and will follow his progress wherever it takes him.

I don't think he played the 5 as well as Krutwig or Agunanne or the 4 as well as Uguak. He looked uncomfortable on the perimeter and undersized in the post.I think it's best for everyone if he finds somewhere that he fits on the roster more and we can use that scholarship for a player who will contribute more.

My hope is that everyone just came to the conclusion that Negron is a great player whose playing style just didn’t fit with what Porter wants to run, and everything was amicable. Right now, it looks like that’s the case.

Negron posted his goodbye on Twitter a few hours ago. If only I knew how to post that here, and find my post from early in the season predicting he would be run out. Appears the staff was honest with him about the situation.
I just wish they could’ve found a way to use him because he is a great player and I have no doubt he will show that wherever he lands.
Still not sure why they couldn’t use him like we did Aundre Jackson. Negron seemed ready, willing, and able to play that role, and we would have been a better team continuing with that type of lineup.

Negron seemed like a stand up guy, and coming back from the injuries he had showed he for sure had drive. I wish him nothing but the best.

But without an ability to drive and shoot from the outside he’s not a fit other than at the 5 for us. Four years ago he would’ve thrived here. But current reality is that with two ahead of him on the depth chart there’s only so many minutes.

He is a very skilled player near the basket. He’s not an Aundre Jackson type. Besides his skill around the basket, Jackson’s biggest assets were his abilities to drive and also be a threat to shoot the 3. He was able to play a wing type position, and our system, like many modern offenses, thrives on versatility like that. Neither Aundre nor Ingram were traditional 4’s, as some seem to insist on arguing.

Agreed, a big reason a lot of the larger schools (U of I, Iowa) backed off him in high school is because his jump shot didn't develop through his junior year. For LU, playing the four on offense he could be effective, but I feel like that's discounting that a lot of teams in the valley try and spread you out with 4 players. Elijah Childs at Bradley probably plays the most traditional 4, but he could also step outside the paint and regularly hit a mid range jumper/the occasional three. While Negron had to be around the basket to really make an impact on offense.

It's also fair to note given how we switch on defense playing him and Krutwig together could really cause problems. He got burned more than once on switches playing the 5, and Krutwig is still a work in progress as well (though he improved greatly). That doesn't mean he's a bad player by any means, just that it'd be an uphill battle for him to get playing time. I loved his game and wanted to see more, those tip dunks were things of beauty, but I also realize that he'd be playing behind a player of the year candidate for 4 seasons. It's not unlike Clayton getting stuck behind Monte Morris at Iowa State, sometimes you gotta do what's best for your personal goals.

Unless you have watched practices, I don’t know how any of you can assess his shooting from outside, other than high school. He was never allowed to play anything but a small 5 for us. I don’t remember him ever taking a jump shot in a game. From what I saw, he was capable of making the elbow jumper and passing from the free throw line area. That was the bread and butter of our offense 2 years ago, set up most of our wide open threes, and was what we did none of this past season.
