How worried are we about the Michigan opening? Have to assume/hope they promote Yaklich right?

Now I am very worried. This Job would make way more sense for Porter. If he’s offered it he will take it. If he’s not offered it it’s Michigan’s loss. Let’s just hope Porter isn’t on their radar. A job like this is that ideal job I’ve always been worried about. Big Ten, Midwest, tradition, culture, Close proximity to Chicago.... great town to live in for your family, diehard fan base....ability to win now...

Fingers crossed

I don't see Michigan going after Porter. They have become a pretty elite program and have the resources to go after a current P6 coach.

But that doesn't mean I won't be nervous until a hiring is announced.

Maybe they will hire Chris Collins. Then Northwestern will come after Porter. He would not have to move his family and would be in walking distance to work.

I doubt that Chris Collins goes to Michigan. 1. I don't think Michigan goes after him and 2. The only job I could see Collins leaving for is Duke. Otherwise he has a nice setup at Northwestern and could be a lifer with real good pay similar to Pat Fitzgerald on the football side.

ESPN has potential coaching candidates:

In-house:
Luke Yaklich

Guys they'd ask but would probably say no:
Tony Bennett, Virginia
Chris Beard, Texas Tech

Home-Run Hire:
Billy Donavan, Thunder

"Wild Cards:"
Thad Matta
Nate Oats, Alabama
Juwan Howard, Heat

People they should talk to:
LaVall Jordan, Butler
Steve Wojciechowski, Marquette
Bobby Hurley, ASU
Mike WHite, Florida
Shaka Smart, Texas

Finally, Porter is listed first on their "Backups"
"Moser's name has popped up for a number of jobs since he led Loyola-Chicago to the Final Four in 2018. But the closest he came was with St. John's last month, and he eventually returned to the Ramblers. This is Michigan, though. If they miss on a few big-name guys, Moser could make sense -- despite making just one NCAA tournament in 15 seasons."

He is way down that list. That is somewhat encouraging.

A month ago I would be a lot more worried than today. I’m still concerned, but turning down St John’s like he did, with the re-commitment to the recruits and their parents, that’d be tough to go back on for next year.

But...St John’s is no Michigan. IMHO it’s the best Big10 job there is, taking into account the current status of the program (no rebuild necessary), facilities, fan base, tradition, and what they could pay. Especially the last one. A really, really big bank account.

Ugh. The thing that sucks is the dominoes start again.

Michigan hires someone like Wojo/Jordan...do they look at Porter then?
